Computer Does Absolutely Jack Shit When Pressing The Power Button
6 replies, posted
I woke up this morning, got breakfast, performed the routine motion of pressing my power button and... nothing.
No fan whirr, no blue or red lights, no beeps. Nothing as if it was switched off at the plug.
I changed the power lead, made sure the switch at the back was on, made sure the plug socket was working with lamp test. Still nothing.
It did this yesterday, but it started working again after changing plug sockets.
Help me please, Facepunch!
Specs:
CPU: i5 3350p
MOBO: Asrock z75 pro 3
PSU: Arctic 700w
RAM: Kingston Generic 4x2gb
GFX: AMD Radeon 6850
HDD: Caviar Blue 7200rpm, Samsung something or other.
Does the motherboard LED light up?
If not, either your PSU or motherboard is broken
Most likely the PSU
The motherboard is only a month or two old, so probably the psu. The electricity in our house is dodgy as fuck though. Lightbulbs are always blowing up.

Makes sense why the PSU would die, I suppose. I recommend you don't cheap out on the PSU, as a higher quality one will last longer.
And get a surge protector
If it started working after changing plug sockets, does anything work in the plug socket it was previously in?
Okay, turns out the power button on my case was broken. I swapped the reset and power buttons and everything is hunkydory now.
Thanks guys.
