Reports surfaced earlier this evening that Microsoft was paying YouTube influencers a fistful of dollars to promote Xbox One have now been confirmed. For the sake of confirmation, we’ll us Machinima. This email (above) has been sent to some of the popular channel’s top personalities. The amount offered is a great incentive for YouTuber’s to promote Xbox One content. Honestly, it’s hard to tell what effect this will have on the viewing community. Some may view this as everyday business, which it is, but some may lose faith in personalities that feature Xbox One content from here on out. In all reality, this rate is a relatively low-cost solution for Microsoft to promote Xbox One. The amount being paid for 1.25M views would be $3,750, which pales in comparison to many other options.
source
That's just good marketing
That's just good marketing
No, it's scummy. Nothing short of bribery. What happened to praising a console because it was actually good, not because someone paid you?
I would praise it but very lightly sarcasically that way I get paid to make fun of what I'm being paid to do put subliminal messages like "THEY HAVE MY FAMILY" "THEY'RE GOING TO KILL ME" everywhere
I will not bow down to any sponser sponsered by Pepsi® and Gamer Fuel®
3$ CPM. That's a little above what you would normally make with a YouTube video but far far far far far below deals for promo videos which usually run around 13-15$ CPM in my experience
I'm willing to bet sony are doing this as well. Hell, Any major release has people paying people to look at things favorably, call of duty, battlefield. Still won't make me buy either until i see some decent games come out.
They're doing a shitty job then because most Youtube partners I follow hate it.

Email in question Sounds like they're going to networks, not individuals. [editline]18th January 2014[/editline]
No, it's scummy. Nothing short of bribery.
Just like when actors on TV say they like something or wear a certain brand of clothes, right? Villainous! (Except it's not because they nobody is actually saying they like Xbone, they only have to play it)
That's just good marketing
Good marketing is paying for Ad space in a clear manner, pushing out information that is clearly yours, or making the advantages of your product clear to the public while lessening the visibility of your disadvantages. Bribery is paying someone to do something that either supersedes their good judgement, their duty to their job, or that they would not otherwise do or say. Which do you think Microsoft is doing here? Which does it look more like they're doing here?
Which do you think Microsoft is doing here? Which does it look more like they're doing here?
It looks like Machinima came up with a promotion because they have a deal with MS?? Worst case scenario, Microsoft is doing what people on TV have been doing for years.
The thing that makes it come off underhanded is the wording really. "Hello Influencers!!" just makes it sound really dirty/underhanded.
You get paid $3 per view? Holy fuck.
It looks like Machinima came up with a promotion because they have a deal with MS?? Worst case scenario, Microsoft is doing what people on TV have been doing for years.
if the xbone really was worth everyone's money, then people would just buy one on its merits, it's not like there's a massive sea of consoles to compete with. instead, it's just paying people who preach to a large audience and hoping the good publicity outweighs the bad. there's also a lot of reviewers on machinima, and if they took this offer, which essentially amounts to selling out your credibility, it reflects very poorly on both them, and sways their viewers to something that they only said because they were paid to. [editline]19th January 2014[/editline]
If that's the message people got, I really don't see how that's praising.
i bet my stars that all the submissions will have to be verified by some dude at microsoft or machinima or something, so nothing negative about the xbone will be released.

My counter to the second part of your post is that nobody is selling out. They're being paid to simply talk about Xbox One and show gameplay. In theory they could trash the system and get a sweet payout for it.
You get paid $3 per view? Holy fuck.
no, 3$ per thousand views.
Praising? Paying someone to show your product isn't bribery and it's not getting them to 'praise' it. At the very worst it's product placement, and even then I'll take 'hey guys I'm playing the xbox one today, check this out' over a movie/show having some crass 'hey guys check out this xbox one I'm totally not promoting wink wink' like 99% of product placement tends to be.
if someone's video is tagged xb1m13 then you can tell they're playing into this marketing scheme
Shocked, I say. Shocked.
Subornation of perjury.
First scroogled, now this shit? Talk about cheap PR moves.
It's shitty but this kind of stuff's been happening since the day advertising became a thing
Why am i not surprised?
Doesn't everyone do this? Might just be a new thing called advertising
Doesn't everyone do this? Might just be a new thing called advertising
because Advertising isn't Obnoxious as all hell.
Email in question
So they could play on other platform but say that they're playing on Xbone? :v:
because Advertising isn't Obnoxious as all hell.
Do you own a TV? Or are you too young to remember
