So to get down to the point, the specs of my Laptop are pretty good, I have a quad core and 6gb of ram, my GPU is a Radeon 5650 which has 1gb of vram. When I first run GTA is reccommended that I run everything on high, but upon testing I found I can run everything on low with texture quality on medium which uses up 300mb of Vram, even when running this my fps drops below 30, is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
GTA IV is a very CPU intensive game, so of course it would be nice to know the specs of your CPU, saying it's a Quad core doesn't mean much. Post your laptop model number and complete specs.
What quad core? And you have a laptop. Full specs and temperatures?
Okay, sorry guys. It's an AMD Phenom II N950 @ 2.1Ghz,

Heres a summary on Speccy: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/QDM3D3zyeePLC1LS3mmE8kZ [editline]29th October 2011[/editline] When looking for benchmarks for my card it says that GTA4 should run at 48fps on low, when it actually runs at about 30.
Well, maybe you'd want to disable some of those services running in the background. For example, anything acer related as it's constantly eating up memory and cpu cycles.
Will do, I shall just uninstall them all. [editline]29th October 2011[/editline] Oh wait, I did this as soon as I got the laptop, any other suggestions?
that game runs like shit on EVERYONES pc
Runs terrible on mine too believe it or not. :(
I can run it perfectly fine, everything maxed out. I'm on a desktop, never tried to play antything besides minesweeper on a laptop.
i run it at 11fps even on low. no difference on high. rendering replays is the only way to see what i did at 30fps :v:
that game runs like shit on EVERYONES pc
Not mine
that game runs like shit on EVERYONES pc
It's not 2008 anymore. There have been patches to make the game optimized.
It's not 2008 anymore. There have been patches to make the game optimized.
It's been optimizes to a level that is still really bad. Main issue I see is that the performance is not consistent with the level of power a computer might have,
I still have no problems running the game on medium-high settings even with icenhancer on a 9800 gt, c2d @2.66ghz, and 3gb of ram.
That's exactly my point. I had a more powerful system before my current one and I couldn't run on low with defaults.
I still have no problems running the game on medium-high settings even with icenhancer on a 9800 gt, c2d @2.66ghz, and 3gb of ram.
Then you're a fucking wizard because that's almost impossible.
I can run it perfectly fine with a x6 1100t, 8gb ddr3, 580 gtx Also worked perfectly fine with my old 480 gtx
I can run it perfectly fine with a x6 1100t, 8gb ddr3, 580 gtx Also worked perfectly fine with my old 480 gtx
Oh my god. It's CPU intensive, of course a x6 will do good.
Oh my god. It's CPU intensive, of course a x6 will do good.
x6 is shit.. Is GTA IV even using those two last cores? Because most games use only 4 cores afaik. And why does brt-s i7 2600k run it so shitty then? It has 4 cores and hyperthreading. Should be more powerful.. I ran GTA IV with an E5200 (Dual core) and a HD4650.. On low-med it ran at 30+ fps. Playable but shit.
Quite simply because it's not optmised at all? Yeah, sure, it's better now than it was on release, but it still seemingly selects random systems to run 60+ fps on and selects others on which it'll just decide to run like shit, almost disregarding specs.
That may be your problem.
I can run HL2:EP2 fully maxed out with 60+fps, not trying to brag but it's a good laptop.
I can run HL2:EP2 fully maxed out with 60+fps, not trying to brag but it's a good laptop.
So can my toaster.
Even my old build with an nvidia 6200 and a good 'ol athlon 3800+ could run EP2 at 40 frames with everything maxed out.
It can also run Dead Space 2 Maxed out, what I'm trying to say ask is whats letting my system down? Because when I can run so many games with high settings and GTA only runs on low then there's something wrong, am I right?
I could run GTA4 okay on low on a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, and my friend could max it out on a core 2 duo. I don't think it's your CPU. EDIT: I just looked up your CPU. It is your CPU.
Just GTA is horribly unoptimized, runs fine for some people, runs like shite for others. Nothing you can do mate.
