Enter Dogecoin: a Bitcoin-like cryptocurrency that seems to have started as a joke and is beginning to actually accumulate some value. As with most things meme, there's a community on Reddit called Dogemarket where users are trading Dogecoin for actual, real-world items — though as of today, a single Dogecoin is worth only $0.00023. That's a far cry from the $735 or so Bitcoin is trading at currently, but you have to start somewhere. Despite that low value, users are actively trading and mining the new currency, and a massive forum thread has sprung up over the last week with Dogecoin fanatics sharing resources and testing different mining setups. If you want to get in on the fun, the official Dogecoin site as well as Dogecoin.org have plenty of resources to get you started. But if you're interested, don't delay — there's a cap of 100,000,000,000 on Dogecoin. While Doge may be an enduring meme, we'll have to see if Dogecoin has any staying power.
So this is happening now, I don't even know what to think. It's gaining quite a lot of popularity, it'll be interesting to see where this goes. [editline]Edited:[/editline] Even if this is a joke its funny seeing people not being sure wether to take it seriously or not.
2013 meme of the year
oh boy
100 billion is too much, it's value would stagnate after a while.
watch all the people who missed out on bitcoin buy millions of these and ruin their lives [editline]16th December 2013[/editline] though if this also turns people into millionaires i'll consider killing myself

I can't believe someone actually spent their time creating this thinking it was a cool idea
While Doge may be an enduring meme
HAHAHAHAHAHA hahahahaha hahaha ha ha ha NO This is, hands down, the worst currency ever created. I would rather have dog shit currency than doge currency.
To be fair, I'd take this about as seriously as I take bitcoin. Just like Bitcoin and TF2 hats, the value of Dogecoin is dictated by what other people are willing to pay.
HAHAHAHAHAHA hahahahaha hahaha ha ha ha NO This is, hands down, the worst currency ever created.
oh boy
Surely it can't have been that bad a year for memes?
To be fair, I'd take this about as seriously as I take bitcoin. Just like Bitcoin and TF2 hats, the value of Dogecoin is dictated by what other people are willing to pay.
The biggest problem is the difficulty acquiring these, it's a much much higher number than bitcoins allowed, and at a certain point there will be much more of these, so they'd not be as rare, making them a lower value than Bc
Apparently it has started. The price has been going up lol. People are trying to make up for not investing in Bitcoin...
i already started mining doges two weeks ago, ill be a millionaire in no time
Surely it can't have been that bad a year for memes?
Memes are fucking stupid, this shit just started out as little inside jokes and blew up out of proportion and its happening frequently
This is fucking ridiculous.
Damn you Reddditttttt
Memes are fucking stupid, this shit just started out as little inside jokes and blew up out of proportion and its happening frequently
I always thought it was just some lolcat variation.
I can't believe someone actually spent their time creating this thinking it was a cool idea
haha memes, i love memes. let's add my two favorite things, memes and speculatory digital currency.
Shibe is dumb. Let's just get it out of the way before anyone else complains.
fuck you
I can't believe someone actually spent their time creating this thinking it was a cool idea
I think it comes from /g/, which hates buttcoins. 4chan as a whole hates doge (even though I'm pretty sure they started it). Makes sense to combine two horrible things to make a parody of both
Investing just because memes are big, and relying on people's stupidity to actually use this currency might bank.
This meme has became cancerous since the masses raped it on YouTube.
The fucking client is in Comic Sans MS. fuck my life.
Probably the funniest thing about these crypto currencies is that with enough effort invested you can still actually get a decent return. My brother spent a whole week mining assorted crypto currencies (including Doge coin) and if he sold what he had mined from that week he would get $200. Yeah you can argue electricity costs, but he has solar power and even if all the power was from the grid that's probably $20 at the most.
talk about pump and dump [editline]17th December 2013[/editline] Ah, turns out coinmarketcap removed dogecoin from the listing temporarily because of the unusual spike, as the market cap for the coin was like 4 times bitcoin's highest. Back up as of a couple of minutes ago.
It'll be interesting to see if this thing goes anywhere. Especially if/when more markets pick it up and recognize it as an additional currency.
I hope this takes off just so I can see videos of reporters talking about doge - they're already bad enough when it comes to bitcoin
My brother bought an Inu due to their internet popularity, it's already gigantic, destroying his apartment, and grabbing his scrawny ass by the ankle.
