BEIJING (AFP) - Two teens in eastern China committed suicide after "failing to complete homework assignments" state-run media said on Friday, in an extreme case highlighting the immense pressure schoolchildren can face.
http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/asia/story/two-teens-take-lives-over-unfinished-homework-media-20130503 What the fuck
:snip:
Yo, I might have said "If I don't get this math done I'm jumping off of a roof," but I've never meant it
this really doesn't help the asian stereotype
It was the straw that broke the camels back, they didn't take their lives just because of their homework.
Maybe not this piece of homework, but I imagine the immense pressure school pupils can be put under, especially in countries like China, was probably a pretty major factor.
I thought what the fuck when I saw the title, but upon seeing these guys were from china it suddenly makes a lot more sense.
I just studied for 20 hours straight for multiple finals, and I know for sure I am not going to get the grades I am going for on any of them. Don't see me crying any more than I usually do
What the hell
I just studied for 20 hours straight for multiple finals, and I know for sure I am not going to get the grades I am going for on any of them. Don't see me crying any more than I usually do
shame we can't all be as hardcore as you
Well if you're chinese, the day you're born your parents will tell you to become a doctor. At least that's what my parents said to me.
I just studied for 20 hours straight for multiple finals, and I know for sure I am not going to get the grades I am going for on any of them. Don't see me crying any more than I usually do
These kids probably went through alot more than just a few all nighters if they killed themselves over it
The education here in China is pretty shitty, students are enrolled in different major depending on the grades they get. And because there is so many students, they have to work really hard in order to get the best grades that will allow them to do what they like. So basically, a lot of students end up studying things they don't even like.
I just studied for 20 hours straight for multiple finals, and I know for sure I am not going to get the grades I am going for on any of them. Don't see me crying any more than I usually do
lol at thinking you have the same pressure put on you as these chinese kids like someone said, it was the straw that broke the camels back
One guy also killed himself last semester here in the school. He jumped from his room's window.
I wonder how bad things must have been for their homework to end up unfinished and they both go "you know what? fuck it its over" and commit suicide. It certainly was a mere straw that broke it all.
lol at thinking you have the same pressure put on you as these chinese kids like someone said, it was the straw that broke the camels back
Sorry if I'm stupid, but what's that phrase mean
Sorry if I'm stupid, but what's that phrase mean
They were already incredibly burdened by other assignments and the last piece of homework (over which they killed themselves) was what made them snap and off themselves.
Sorry if I'm stupid, but what's that phrase mean
It means that the incident in question made them so angry/sad/humiliated/etc that in combination with numerous other problems, made them commit suicide/kill someone/etc
Thank you both
If you don't do homework in China dire consequences [editline]3rd May 2013[/editline]
I just studied for 20 hours straight for multiple finals, and I know for sure I am not going to get the grades I am going for on any of them. Don't see me crying any more than I usually do
man, so badass, in your overprivileged wealthy white country, you sure are a cool dude
Just how? Seriously, killing yourself over unfinished homework just boggles the mind to be honest :S
Even schools in this country (UK) and other western nations are run in a pretty autocratic way, I hate to think how they are run in China for this to happen
I thought what the fuck when I saw the title, but upon seeing these guys were from china it suddenly makes a lot more sense.
it's sad that this stereotype is true
What the fuck is happening to this world.
This is china, a place with INCREDIBLE pressure to perform academically is placed on childdren

This is horrible. I am already exhausted if I have more than two subjects in a row. Those children are at school like the whole day. I can't blame them.

Homework puts a lot of stress on people but still an over reaction. Ban homework it costs lives.
