The announcement marks a major step in ending hostilities between the longtime foes and an opportunity to re-establish formal diplomatic relations. The U.S. and Cuba have been negotiating the reestablishment of embassies in each other's capitals following the Dec. 17 announcement that they would move to restore ties.
Finally
Pretty cool. Don't think we should be all buddy buddy with them, but warming up relations to the point where both countries can communicate effectively at the least seems like it can't hurt.
shit, I never thought to see the day we'd have Cuban embassies in the US, along with our embassies in Cuba. hopefully relations will continue to improve.
Man, how I find repugnant all the people with interests that write against any kind of Cuban-American relationship that is for the better! Saying stuff like Obama wants to support the Commies, that Francisco is actually a commie pope and looks to help the Castro brothers, etc etc. Like, the worst thing is that there's some people that hear them. How retarded can you be to believe such non-sense bullshit? This year is awesome. Except for ISIS that is.

They've been isolated from the world kind of so we should be helping them.
At the moment, Cuba is ripe for capitalism. If our plan was to seclude them for so long that we could shock and awe them with tons of consumer goods, then so far so good I guess?

Fun facts: Fidel Castro was a good friend of Pierre Elliott Trudeau. At his funeral, he was one the pallbearer. That's a good news for America. But not for the Repooblicans.
Cuban cigars, here we come.
Cuban cigars, here we come.
And American Cigars, here we say goodbye :v: Damn, the price of Cohibas would drop.... I can't wait.
We've got a lot of making up to do with our South American and Central American neighbors, to be honest.
Yeah, but in many ways that means destroying relationships with certain industrial sectors inside US. EDIT: That quote and my answer to it sounds a lot like a line from Jibjab's "so long year 20xx!" videos

We use embargoes and sanctions as an economic weapon against countries that cause us political problems (Iran, Russia), but aren't so influential that we lose out by refusing to trade with them (China). I guess Obama's administration has finally decided that it's not worth the economic cost.

It is time.
We've got a lot of making up to do with our South American and Central American neighbors, to be honest.
And a lot of pure, beautiful cocaine to snort.
At the moment, Cuba is ripe for capitalism. Once there was nobody to subsidize Cubas horribly unbalanced economy it pretty much broke down and led to the rebirth of the market economy. The same thing happened in places like North Korea, but it's taken about twenty years for both Cuba and North Korea to give up the last hopes of reviving communism and throw in their lot with economic reform.

We actually supported them which is why we were there in the first place.
