Britain's biggest-ever lottery jackpot winner has finally come forward to claim the £113million EuroMillions prize. But last night the winner’s identity remained a closely-guarded secret. Twelve days after the record-breaking draw was made, Camelot suddenly announced that a ‘claim has been validated and the prize has been paid out’. But the lucky mystery man or woman – or syndicate – now has to decide whether they want publicity over their tax-free windfall. If the winner is an individual he or she instantly becomes the 589th wealthiest person in Britain. Camelot said: ‘The ticket-holder is currently deciding whether or not to go public and share their news.’ But if the instant multi-millionaire chooses to remain anonymous then no further details will be revealed, including the location where the ticket was bought – or why there was such a lengthy delay in claiming the prize. The ticket-holder was confirmed as the winner yesterday in a process taking little more than an hour. Lottery officials checked the ticket, the time and place it was purchased and other security details, then handed over the cheque for £113,019,926. The winner will be under no pressure to decide whether to go public but Camelot is expected to advise the ticket-holder to make a decision ‘sooner rather than later’. The decision may emerge today. Confirmation of the pay-out came amid fevered speculation about the winner’s identity and why the ticket-holder had taken so long to claim the prize. The winner beat odds of more than 76million to one to pick the numbers 9, 30, 35, 39, 46, with lucky stars 6 and 8, and land the prize. Interest has been mounting up at the rate of £8,500 a day. Camelot revealed yesterday that it had received more than 1,000 lost ticket claims relating to the massive jackpot. One pensioner claimed on Tuesday that her husband had thrown away her winning ticket but she had noted down her winning numbers. Last night, the 77-year-old woman, who asked not to be named, said: ‘Oh well, maybe next time. I must have got confused. I could have sworn that I wrote the numbers down from the ticket. ‘I guess I’ll have to apologise to my husband now for accusing him of losing it. But I’m secretly glad it isn’t us. I don’t think I’d ever have had a moment’s peace again if I’d won all that money. ‘Truth be told, it would be good for a young person to win, but not for me because I’m happy with what I have.’ Her 74-year-old husband added: ‘I like my life as it is and I don’t think we’d have known what to do with all that money. But I wish whoever did win the best of luck.’ Britain’s previous largest lottery winner was an anonymous player who scooped £84.4million on the EuroMillions draw in May. Before this, Nigel Page and Justine Laycock, from Barnsley, Gloucestershire, broke the record in February after winning £56million on EuroMillions. After the win, Mr Page, 43, and Miss Laycock, 41, moved into a £4million environmentally-friendly mansion – leaving their old £400,000 home to their cleaner Denise Kelso – and got married. The latest winner’s wealth will eclipse that of pop stars Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, who are said to be worth £110million, Phil Collins, who has a fortune of £108million, and Rod Stewart, who has an estimated £105million to his name. In the past 16 years, 2,400 people have become overnight millionaires through the lottery. Lucky person whoever they are, I would definitely remain anonymous if I won. I'm in a syndicate at work, bought two lucky dip tickets and my dad bought a lucky dip on behalf of our household and I think I had maybe two numbers between all my tickets.
I want to know if someone won the Nation Lottery or Euro millions top prize, would they play the lottery the following week?
20 bucks the Winner disappears the following month.
Uh oh, I think its someone who lives near me because I remember talking to an old friend and he said that someones won it.
If I won any lottery like that, I'd remain anonymous. I don't know why, But it just doesn't sound safe announcing that kind of thing.
If I won any lottery like that, I'd remain anonymous. I don't know why, But it just doesn't sound safe announcing that kind of thing.
Whether you deserve your money or just get it handed to you like this, people will always want to steal it from you.
This kind of money either breaks or makes your life. Really depends on how you look at it. And how you use it.
Put it all in the bank and you can live off the interest and then some
That's a good thing about the lottery it gives a little bit of hope knowing you could become a millionaire overnight.
The only time a loser will win is the lottery
When you win the lottery, do you have to have a picture taken and have it reported in the news and the like? I wouldn't want ANYONE to know I'd won, family, friends, enemies, nobody. That kind of money changes everything, including how people treat you. I'm talking about in Canada.
I would remain anonymous for sure. And with a 113 million quid, I'd buy a lot of nice cars that you lucky brits get.
watch them/him/her spend it all b4 February
I'm always jellin' when I hear about these stories. Makes me want to start playing the lottery.
I'd put the money in a bank and instead of buying stupidly expensive stuff, I'd go easy on the money and even donate some.
Put the money in the bank and you are set for free money your whole life. And they don't get all 113m of jackpot do they. Doesn't some assholes take their share of it.
They will spend it on tea
Put the money in the bank and you are set for free money your whole life. And they don't get all 113m of jackpot do they. I won $10,000 on my first lottery ticket I'd ever bought. I then realized, I don't want to be pulled into the trap of spending more than I win. So the 10k made me more than happy for a while. I do play scratch tickets every once in a while, but no big spending.
Damn, if I had that much money, the first thing I'd do is donate to the rescue squad I'm a member of to finally get our new station built (around 8 to 10 million USD). A large amount of the rest would be donated.
This kind of money either breaks or makes your life. Really depends on how you look at it. And how you use it.
They should donate it all to Hampture. He could build a hamster colony on the moon with that kind of money.
They should donate it all to Hampture. He could build a hamster colony on the moon with that kind of money.
Pretty sure a competent rocket costs a lot more than 113 million
I would throw all of that money into a bank and live off of interest
Pretty sure a competent rocket costs a lot more than 113 million
Only when built by the government. Groups have built functional space-capable rockets for less than NASA's ridiculous budget. *Still wants NASA to get more money, but use it properly*
By 113 million pounds worth of lottery tickets. Can't lose.
winner must be Hurley :lost:
By 113 million pounds worth of lottery tickets. Can't lose.
"OH FUCK WE NEED EIGHT MORE TRUCKS FOR ALL THESE TICKETS" Yeah, if you can FIND the damn ticket.
The winner is the shadow broker. It is the only possible solution.
