Stevie Wonder not going to perform in Florida anymore due to Zimmerman verdict
Florida fans of Stevie Wonder who want to see the legend sing are going to have to go on a road trip for the near future. During a performance in Quebec City, Canada, on Sunday, the Grammy-winning performer spoke out about the recent acquittal of George Zimmerman and announced he would boycott the state.
"I decided today that until the 'Stand Your Ground' law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again," he told the audience. "As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world."
He's a big manbaby
What a baby.
If he would have opened his eyes and looked at the evidence, he could see that it was self defense.
some people are just to blind to see what is really going on... he will only piss off his fans
I think the smartest thing any celebrity could do in light of the Zimmerman trial is nothing.
he wants 'stand your ground' abolished?
"hey i know you are being savagely beaten but self defense is no longer protected by the government, so just keep being beaten and maybe if you live we will catch the guy later"
i really doubt stevie wonder has ever been in a situation where he has had to defend himself whilst being attacked anyway
Funny considering Stand Your Ground wasn't even mentioned in the trial. Goes to show just how informed people are.
No one cares, Stevie.
By the way, Stand your Ground wasn't even invoked.
To be frank, I don't see any reason why self-defense laws shouldn't exist. People would defend themselves anyway, because it's natural human behaviour unless you're paralysed with fear, so Stand Your Ground and the like exists to prevent the attackers from counter-suing. Sometimes I wonder if the Zimmerman-Martin case would even have been mentioned if Zimmerman had also been black...

As opposed to defending yourself while not being attacked? :P

Fine then, see if any of us care.

The only reasonable tweets on the verdict from celebs are from donald trump and lupe fiasco so far.
Jesus Christ. A trial is carried out, where it is shown that there is no evidence to support the idea that Zimmerman shot Trayvon in anything but self defense (with actual evidence to support the claim of self defense, not reasonable doubt) and people are still fucking pulling this shit?
Talk about being ignorant babies.
I think this is more about SYG than Zimmerman, which is pretty understandable seeing some of the statistics on SYG: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/criminal-justice/is-there-racial-bias-in-stand-your-ground-laws/

That article also doesn't point out the situations that people find themselves in and doesn't really give the data it has. Only saying that they use "Techniques". There's more likely hood that a middle class white persons house is going to be broken into than the other way around.
Does the stand your ground law work when you're laying on your back with a person on top of you? Or at that point is it just standard self defense?
Not shitting on PBS, that's just a terrible fucking graph and the data is questionable. They also don't put in White on White or say what state and such it is in. It's a really shitty article that doesn't use plausible sources, it uses blogs, reverting to the fox technique of "Some experts believe".

They don't really accomplish anything except fuel the flames of racial hatred.
What I dislike about celebrities is that I don't care about them so I know nothing about them when they make the news.
I thought he was going to perform a song called "Stand Your Ground".. that would have been cool.

It would take one hell of a court to convict a man in the dire threat Zimmerman was in of murder even in a state without SYG. SYG has nothing to do with the trial anyways.

no since you're not standing anymore
Hey, look who it is spamming dumb ratings in lieu of actually presenting an argument!
didn't see that coming.

It's in comparison to White-on-White, so the column would be blank.

Totally agree.
I already had to "unlike" Andrew WK on Facebook because he wouldn't shut up about the whole thing. Not that he'd post anything insightful anyways.
What I find most frustrating about this whole thing is how people feel the need to have an opinion about this. Then state it. Then be big children like Stevie here about it.
There are a lot more pressing issues and problems these days then a man killing another man. Sad; Sure. But this whole trial is being used as a smoke screen for bigger issues. Again.
Additionally, there are far fewer white-on-black shootings in the FBI data — only 25 total in both the Stand Your Ground and non-Stand Your Ground states.
Read the article. The statistics are literally meaningless considering the absolutely miniscule sample size for white-on-black crime. That would be like asking your neighbor who they're voting for, and calling the election on that data alone.

Close enough.
All his agents have to do is just not tell him he's in Florida. He won't exactly be able to see the difference
I don't mind him boycotting states because he doesn't approve of certain laws but he should probably be informed that SYG wasn't used in the Zimmerman case.
