Social justice activists heckle Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley "What side are you on?" #blackliv
Both Democratic presidential candidates were supposed to sit down with activist and journalist Jose Antonio Vargas to talk about immigration. Instead, they got shouted down.
O’Malley was repeatedly drowned out by chanting protesters who wanted to discuss police brutality against black Americans. When O’Malley finally did get a chance to respond, they kept shouting.
The protesters began shouting again when Sanders tried to pivot back to discussing Wall Street greed and economic inequality. At one point, Sanders offered a deviation from his usual talking points: “Black people are dying in this country because we have a criminal justice system that is out of control,” he said.
Vargas tried to pepper the Vermont senator with immigration questions, but the chants once again threatened to drown them out. At one point, Sanders’ frustration showed. “Black lives of course matter, but I have spent 50 years of my life fighting for civil rights and if you don’t want me to be here that’s OK,” he said.

This is why I can't stand "liberal" extremists. At least the far right stick by their candidates. How in the hell do you heckle Bernie Sanders as a "liberal" person?
Yes, let's flood a political debate about one issue and hijack it and demand they talk about something else because OUR issue is more important than anything else and we should solely focus on it.
C'mon, there's a time and place for everything, and we need to allow some issues some time in the limelight. Don't pull stupid stunts like this, it's only giving your issue a bad reputation.
“It’s not like we like shutting shit down but we have to,” activist Patrisse Cullors said. “We are tired of being interrupted.”

“black lives matter, white lives matter, all lives matter,” sparking loud boos.
These idiots just want to be angry. Bernie believes the root of black suffering is their lack of education and poverty and he's right. He wants to solve class inequality and fix poverty.
like no shit he thinks black lives matter. He was literally a organizer during the civil rights movement.
personally i think it's because these really really young kids are left wing, and demand perfection from their candidates(as well as being obnoxious, loud, and being used to getting what they want by shouting and making a scene), and havent yet learned thats an unobtainable dream because it's unreasonable to assume that out of say 5 potential candidates that one or all of them are going to focus on all the issues that you want them to. For these people it's simply just not good enough for them no matter how perfect of a candidate Bernie is.
Bernie was fucking arrested during the civil rights movement
lmao at
“It’s not like we like shutting shit down but we have to,” activist Patrisse Cullors said. “We are tired of being interrupted.”
when you're doing nothing but interrupt, like who the fuck do you think you are and how is your view of how reality works so skewed
“A study came out a few weeks ago talking about youth unemployment in America, an issue we do not deal with as a nation. And here’s what, here’s what that said. What that report said is that if you are a high school graduate and you’re white, the unemployment rate is 33 percent. If you are Hispanic, the unemployment rate is 36 percent; if you are African American, the unemployment rate is 51 percent. And in my view maybe, just maybe, it is time we invest in jobs and education not in jails and incarceration.

“Black people are dying in this country because we have a criminal justice system that is out of control,” he said.
The fact that people boo'ed and jeered this is infuriating. They think he's dodging the issues but he addressed the heart of the issues.
Sanders went to Brooklyn College for a year before transferring to the University of Chicago. While there, he was active in the Civil Rights Movement, and a student organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.
If I didn't know this was Politico, I'd think this was a story from The Onion. This is how ridiculously stupid it is.
Jeez, these people are vicious. This is a candidate that's as close as they'll ever get to someone they'd want in office, running against all odds. And they decide to hijack his debate and acting like a bunch of insufferable cunts. Bernie would have probably had a better reception at a GOP Convention.

and Hilary is just going to win their support by saying the magic works "yes, black lives do matter".
and Hilary is just going to win their support by saying the magic works "yes, black lives do matter".
Hilary is a woman so she's already won brownie points.
So apparently the #blacklivesmatter crowd is planning on doing this during the entirety of the presidential campaign.
I'm looking through twitter right now and getting pretty infuriated. Do these people even research anything at all?

Protestors aren't always the kind to fact check.
Can someone explain to me #blacklivesmatter? Like, what were they hoping for Sanders to say? Or is it just because he's an older white guy so they just don't like him? The whole thing just frustrates me.
He went on to say, awkwardly, “black lives matter, white lives matter, all lives matter,” sparking loud boos.
Why are they booing at a perfectly legitimate statement?

That education and jobs will lead to African Americans living more prosperous lives and hopefully relieve some of the racial tensions in this country. What the hell are the #blacklivesmatter people trying to achieve? Why target Bernie and these democrats who do believe that there is racism in this country and want to fix it?
Go after the guys who believe racism doesn't exist at least.
Why are they booing at a perfectly legitimate statement?
Because they're the exemplification of a vocal minority making the majority look like twats.

like goddamn, i really do hate people who hijack actual social issues just to be a fucking asshole. you not only make yourself look stupid, but you are detrimental to an actual real issue. is he somehow supposed to fucking just say every goddamn buzzword at once? "feminism! black people! mexicans"

Not to mention that on top of that Sanders has literally made statements about minority incarceration, ghettoization, minority education, etc. All they had to do was use google
At my university we've had people sprinting through the halls and knocking on doors to try and start a walk out and people forming a human chain infront of the food court over blacklivesmatter, as if students are not the most liberal people already.
All this stuff does is show that liberals are more interested in scoring points than actually changing anything.

Erm have you seen the news today by chance, maybe pertaining to something with trump vs mccain?
I hate this incredibly vocal minority of the left wing that doesn't even care about the issues, only scoring points and looking more "progressive" than you. They only care about the movement, not about the cause.
these people hate actual solutions because it takes away their perceived right to bitch. if they actually cared about the issues they would've been agreeing with sanders, god i hate white people

This kind of thing seems to happen in every movement or group. People join not for the cause, but so they can feel like they belong and they're doing the right thing. It just turns into ego stroking and you end up with nothing done and the entire movement looking like a joke.
what does 'liberal' in america mean
in australia it's the equivalent of a republican
Why are they booing at a perfectly legitimate statement?
Because they took a the phrase "police do not believe black lives matter" from the police shooting at black protesters and arresting more black people than white people then shortened it to "black lives matter" for twitter.
Now, when you say "white lives matter" you imply that the police mistreats white people and arrests as many of them as they arrest black people. It does not matter if you do not know the context of anything, you just "said" black people are seen as equal to white people in the eyes of the law which is not true and you must now be called out until you break into tears and a non-understanding plaintive "I'm sorry I won't do it again" escapes from your lips.
