article: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/north-korea-kim-jong-un-pictured-1588161 North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has got a smartphone – possibly made in South Korea. Debate has raged over the make of the mobile, with some claiming that it is either a Samsung, from across the border, or an HTC or iPhone from Taiwan. Either way, chances are his ringtone is Gangnam Style. The black device was seen by the dictator during a meeting last week. Apart from highly-placed officials, about one million people in North Korea own mobiles. They were only introduced to the country in 2008 and owners are not allowed to make international calls or go online.
I use Angry Birds to practice shooting projectile missiles!!
So he has a smartphone, and the majority of the people in his country don't even know they exist / are possible. neat.
Either way, chances are his ringtone is Gangnam Style.
this doesn't seem likely, Psy is south korean isn't he? :v:
This raises an interesting question. How does he have any reception?
this doesn't seem likely, Psy is south korean isn't he? :v:
That's uh kinda the joke
This raises an interesting question. How does he have any reception?
wifi and skype.
Everyone knows that Psy stole that dance from Un anyway
This raises an interesting question. How does he have any reception?
North Korea does have a mobile network, it's just quite difficult to get a phone.
So he has a smartphone, and the majority of the people in his country don't even know they exist / are possible. neat.
actually you're wrong, there is over 2 million NK'ers with smartphones and the national carrier has a 3G network that supports 98% of the country [editline]6th February 2013[/editline] there is no internet access though with it but google is pushing for internet access so fingers crossed
Clearly his first download was missile command?
Glorious leader is a wizard with his magic government technology!
I thought they had iphones in NK
This raises an interesting question. How does he have any reception?
North Korea has had cell phones for a while now, although they're limited to Pyongyang I believe
[del]Someone should shop in a Block phone.[/del] :v:
Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring. Dictator-phone.
actually you're wrong, there is over 2 million NK'ers with smartphones and the national carrier has a 3G network that supports 98% of the country [editline]6th February 2013[/editline] there is no internet access though with it but google is pushing for internet access so fingers crossed
Well shit, I knew they had phones but I was expecting, at best, flip phones circa 2000. So they have smartphones but no food. double neat.
probably a huawei
Samsung adamantly said it was not one of their phones. SK intelligence believe it's an htc. I guess it sucks to be one of the most powerful individuals on the planet and have your choice in smartphone dictated by politics.
I want an UnPhone
actually you're wrong, there is over 2 million NK'ers with smartphones and the national carrier has a 3G network that supports 98% of the country
2 million with smartphones? how is that possible
2 million with smartphones? how is that possible
It's not. Most phones in NK are old style bricks. It was in part of a vice guide or something from CNN.
Makes sense. Since Google Map finally arrived in North Korea, his smartphone should become handy.
actually you're wrong, there is over 2 million NK'ers with smartphones and the national carrier has a 3G network that supports 98% of the country [editline]6th February 2013[/editline] there is no internet access though with it but google is pushing for internet access so fingers crossed
You wanna source this? Smuggling has been occuring for years in NK, but there's no way there's smartphones and the like available to the normal people there, especially to 2 million people. The closest that clandestine calling has come in NK is normal cell phones near the border, and sat phones.
Next up, he'll download Kernel Space Program for his computer.
this doesn't seem likely, Psy is south korean isn't he? :v:
No he is Iranian.
It looks very much like an HTC to me. I'm not surprised about this though, just because he is the leader of North Korea, doesn't mean he isn't going to have a smartphone.
there is no internet access though with it but google is pushing for internet access so fingers crossed
And that's probably not going to happen, unless NK censors it to the point of it being a national intranet, which I'm not sure they're clever enough to do. If NK's citizens widely get an idea of how not-shit the rest of the world is compared to them (for the most part, let's not go into this), the regime is fucked without even heavier military suppression.
That picture just looks weird to me. It's like looking at a very old picture and seeing something that reminds me of new technology that wasn't possible back then.
So he has a smartphone, and the majority of the people in his country don't even know they exist / are possible. neat.
Actually, cheap chinese smartphones are common in North Korea
