Officials say it's the 14th case nationally this year for the rare, life-threatening, flea-borne illness. It's caused by bacteria occurring among wild rodents and their fleas in some areas of the western U.S.
Time to burn some ethnic groups./s
but antibiotics can stop it soooo
unless you don't get treated of course then you're just screwed
Probably the Jews poisoning the wells again.

I don't want the government putting microchips under my skin with the ANTI-biotics (anti means bad!)
I bet you a million bucks it's gonna get blown out of proportion like the ebola outbreak was earlier this year/last year.
Bring out yer dead
Can you imagine how horrific this would be if it was the 17 century.

Even more scary is that I'm 22 and if this was the 17th century I'd almost be 2/3rds of the way done with my life.
I thought this was one of those diseases that'd been eradicated from existence.

Actually making it to 22 meant that you could expect to live into your late 40s. Historic life expediencies were so low because of very high infant and childhood mortality rates. Why would humans have evolved menopause if they rarely lived past 30?
I hope people don't get all sensationalist about this. Mortality for the black death is MAYBE 10% nowadays, and that's on a bad day. The high mortality seen in Europe was due to the general filth they lived in rather than the actual virulence of the disease.
Well this is in Lansing...
I bet you a million bucks it's gonna get blown out of proportion like the ebola outbreak was earlier this year/last year.
Except ebola is extremely contagious and deadly, and if nobody was paying attention or gave a shit it could have turned into an outbreak.
Bubonic plague is actually kind of hard to catch, hence there being ten or so cases annually.

Blowing the threat of ebola out of proportion was a good thing. You do not, I repeat, do not underestimate transmittable diseases, especially something as horrible as ebola.
As for the bubonic plague, it's uncommon but there are several cases every year or so in the US so this isn't new. Pretty easy to treat but the vector should be controlled/eliminated just in case.
I thought this was one of those diseases that'd been eradicated from existence.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we need vaccination. Never know when it can just bounce back from the dark corners of the Earth like a lecherous space octopus.
:snip:snap. Interesting how apparently about 10 people die to this each year in the US however, only this year is looking slightly worse in that regard.

Like a lecherous space octopus.
Like a lecherous space octopus.
Well Cthulhu WAS ravening for delight when he was unleashed, but whether that meant he was on a booty cruise or just out to snack on some tasty mortal morsels, we dunno. (also I took out the hyphen, a little unnecessary)
The bubonic plaque is more common than you think, it's just now we don't treat it with not bathing and anthrax.
Damn antivaccers! They'll destroy our nation!
Ah fuck, I live in Michigan.
I thought this was one of those diseases that'd been eradicated from existence.
bubonic plague is caused by the Yersinia pestis bacteria that is carried by fleas.
Unless you can cure all the fleas that have this bacteria then its pretty much never going to go away completely. According to the wikipedia page on Bubonic Plague in 2013 there was 750 documented cases of it with 126 deaths. Most common in africa
Well fuck. Guess I should take my out of state vacation early.
i hope to god it doesn't spread because i live in michigan

are you guys for real?
are you guys for real?
Depends on which part of the statement you're talking about. Yes I do live in Michigan and consequently vacation out of state when convenient, but I'm hardly panicked over this, sounds like it's one case that originated out of state and is under control, nothing to worry about yet.
