Go is an ancient board game, probably the oldest one in the world. It was invented in China around 4000 BC and has quickly spread to Japan, Korea, and southeast Asia.
The rules of the game is very simple, each player puts down a stone, colored white or black (each player picks a color at the beginning), and the goal is for your stones to encircle the biggest amount of territory at the end of the game. Capturing the enemy player's stones also gives you points.
I wrote a pretty big guide on all the rules but then it got deleted, so you can lean all the basics and all the specific rules here: http://playgo.to/iwtg/en/ (there's also guides in about 20 other languages, not just English).
The guide is easy and fun to follow, shouldn't take you more than 15 mins.
Now that you know how to play the game and all the basics, you'll probably be asking, "well what the hell do I do now?". Well, you can play Go over the internet, of course!
There are many Go servers, and the most popular ones are KGS and IGS. I find KGS to be a lot more user-friendly, but IGS has more players since it's older.
The big advantage KGS has over IGS is the chat rooms, which means a community like Facepunch can stick together in our own single room.
The server's website is: www.gokgs.com. Just click "Play Go Now!", and if you have Java installed you can log right in.
First you'll want to log in as a guest, and after you're in the server you can register, but you don't have to (It helps if you want to know your level and to get other people to know who you are).
My user there is BurnEmDown, obviously, and I'm about 6 kyu, which isn't too good but I'm no beginner.
I've set up our own Facepunch room, and here are the instructions to log in and play:
Go to www.gokgs.com and click "Play Go Now!":

Write your desired username in the name bar, no need to write a password now. Click on the Guest button as shows, or if the Java application thing doesn't show, click on the link circled in blue:

Now this is the window that pops up:

Click on the "Rooms" button in the menu above, the one circled in red, then click on "Room List" from the drop-down toolbar.
A new small window should open:

Click on the bold "New Rooms" and then click on "Facepunch" twice. You should now be in Facepunch's room!
Hope to see you there, if anyone wants help learning the basic rules I'll be there to teach you, at least for the next few hours.
Yeah you can GO play something more interesting.
Yeah I have this as a boardgame, fun stuff.
I thought Go was that chess-like japanese game :(
I would try this one out laters, but if someone got info on that other Japanese game...
There's Kenji, I think, I tried to learn it once but it's complicated, though I'm blaming the learning program which wasn't user-friendly at all. If there was a user-friendly Kenji learning program I would gladly learn how to play.
Burn should play GO away
...Burn.
Is this a thread about the game or how to join a server?
Well it's about the game but I think if people will join the server and the Facepunch room it'll be easier to learn and talk about it there. Just like how the Wurm Online thread OP is mostly about how to start playing and not much about what the game is.
Go-atse?
