Just announced at the offical ruse steam group. (i couldn't find a Ruse megathread so i posted it here) http://steamcommunity.com/games/RUSE/announcements/detail/181455308737447074
Hey everyone, Here's an important news for you. Please note that when R.U.S.E. is released in September, it will benefit from Valve’s Steamworks API to offer the best community experience to players. Consequently, a Steam account and Internet connection will be required to activate the game, as per Steam policy. For this reason, R.U.S.E. will not use the Ubisoft protection. Single player can be played offline. Thanks for reading, R.U.S.E. team Follow the team on Twitter at twitter.com/UbiLeak
Awesome!
:aaaaa::aaaaa::aaaaa: That was... unexpected. :aaaaa::aaaaa::aaaaa:
Huzzah! Steam fixes something else.
Ruse was actually a decent Ubisoft game, most of theirs suck.
Ruse was actually a decent Ubisoft game, most of theirs suck.
I found it boring and generic.
I love how ubisoft is breaking from the shackles and doing this! Good job!

Time to go buy RUSE. Honestly the only thing stopping me from buying it was the DRM.... Now that that's gone I can buy it.

It was a shame as well because I really enjoyed the beta, but there was no way I was going to waste money on a game with such retarded DRM. Now that problem has be solved.
Hope this becomes true of all their games then I might buy them
Ruse is good for not using drm but the game sucks.

Now we have to wait until all future Ubisoft PC titles will use Steamworks. [editline]11:06PM[/editline] Also, another nice PC-related fact: Dedicated Server Surprisingly it was discovered on official Ubisoft forums sometime in 2010, that the game will support dedicated servers. It is very rare for a RTS to support such methods for online play, but hardcore PC fans might be very delighted.
Awesome. So instead of having to be online as required by Ubisoft DRM, you have to be online as required by Steam. That sounds so much better.
Awesome. So instead of having to be online as required by Ubisoft DRM, you have to be online as required by Steam. That sounds so much better.
Steam has an offline mode! And community features. And cloud storage for savegames.
Steam has an offline mode! And community features. And cloud storage for savegames.
An offline mode that never works when you actually need it. I have a decent enough connection that I'm never offline, so I don't mind being online all the time. By the double standard annoys me. People get pissed about UbiDRM, but they don't mind having to be online to play Steam games. The two DRM methods are essentially the same. And even if "offline mode" does work, it'll make you log in eventually or it shuts down offline mode. But since it almost never works its a moot point.
Finally they're realizing that the DRM did nothing but harm paying customers. Seriously, in the end, it resulted in pirates playing the game with no hassles, while customers were screwed over and kicked from their single player games over losing a single packet.
...And now it's safe to buy
DRM will be there, we've just fallen for Ubisoft's clever R.U.S.E.
Awesome. So instead of having to be online as required by Ubisoft DRM, you have to be online as required by Steam. That sounds so much better.
it won't rip you out of the game if lose connection.
Ruse was actually a decent Ubisoft game, most of theirs suck.
I played the beta and I hated it, it was significantly too slow for me.
I don't like the game but I'll still buy it when I can just because it doesn't have the nazi drm.
I guess somebody there has 2 brain cells to rub together...
Breaking from the shackles? They made the shackles in the first place.
Breaking from the Chinese finger trap, then...

It's very convenient having games update for you and, in an increasing number of games, you can join people online very easily through the friends system. Unless I'm mistaken, the Ubisoft DRM (when it was revealed for Assassin's Creed 2) kicked you off the gameplay if the connection broke, which is absolutely silly. And at least Steam has offline mode as part of its design, working or not.

[editline]02:18AM[/editline] With ubisofts DRM I would have not been able to play at all
Well, I might buy this now. I'm not putting up with any of that stupid DRM crap.
I remember someone saying that they hated the DRM so much they wouldn't even play during the free RUSE weekend. The game itself is meh; it's fun to mess around in. Good decision I suppose.
The game is fun i won a tournament on Dreamhack Winter 2009 :) An i7-860 a steelseries headset 5v2 or something :D nice shit a Windows 7 Ultimate and a Free ticket to the next event

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that with Ubi's DRM if your internet dropped at all you'd be kicked to the main menu, as far as the games I have played on steam all the single player games have continued working after my internet has dropped for a few minutes.
