(CNN) -- An illegal immigrant who this week was awarded $200,000 in a lawsuit against a Tennessee sheriff's office will ask a federal judge to grant her permission to remain in the United States legally, her attorney told CNN.
A jury on Thursday awarded Juana Villegas the damages in a civil case against the joint government of Nashville and Davidson County in which she alleged that county sheriff's deputies violated her rights when they shackled her while pregnant, while in labor and during her postpartum recovery. She had initially filed suit against federal officials, but the judge dismissed that part of the case
Now, her attorney, Elliott Ozment, says that he will ask the judge who oversaw the case to grant his client a U-visa, a special status that can be conferred on victims of crimes who are in the country illegally.
note there is way more on the link its just that's its pretty long and you people don't have long attention spans :v:
That bitch needs to be deported ASAP.

Hahaha, oh wow.
How does an illegal immigrant do this...
How does an illegal immigrant do this...
The police shackled her while pregnant and in labor.

Yeah, but she isn't even a citizen. I guess that is bad though.
This still doesn't look right. Don't know it's just that it seem weird to see an illegal immigrant sue a sheriff and use the money to stay in the USA.
Yeah, but she isn't even a citizen.
And?
Edit
And?
Shouldn't Mexico help her?
I was on the woman's side up until she asked to stay. I don't see why she should be allowed to, she's just milking the situation as much as she can.
I'm OK with this, I don't see why anybody would think a pregnant woman in labor is a threat (Why the hell would she even attack the police while pregnant, I don't know).
[editline]21st August 2011[/editline]
But she shouldn't be allowed to stay, she should still have to apply like everybody else.

If that was an attempt at humor, you failed miserably.
If you were being serious, you failed miserably.

Anyone would do it if they had such an opportunity.

yeah, how dare she try to pursue a better life from a country stuck in trouble with evil drug lords who kill everybody

I failed miserably? Look at your avatar.
What can't people attempt to become a legal US citizen (Not saying that people don't try). I mean seriously, its one test. Aswell as other things.

Not really making yourself look any better.
Wow, the system actually worked for once. I am pleased.

Because it often takes years upon years, and in a lot of cases doesn't go through without having family in the US or having a marketable skill.

i know its posted way to much but look at it
It's just one test.. and 9 years of waiting to take that test, oh and by the way, most americans wouldn't even pass said test..
Among other requirements, yeah.
Gee, I wonder why she was there...
Can you say "Anchor baby?"
She was there illegally, I don't see why she should have any human rights.

Same as I think that prisoners should lose their rights.

I'm not trying.

She's a Mexican national, not born in the US. If she was, she'd be a citizen.

They aren't human rights if you take them away based on citizenship.
People are saying she should have to leave because "rules are rules".
...That's just stupid. But assuming you don't see why, allow me just use your own logic against you:
Elliott Ozment, says that he will ask the judge who oversaw the case to grant his client a U-visa, a special status that can be conferred on victims of crimes who are in the country illegally.
Sorry guys, rules are rules.

they are illegal immigrants not animals...
Go back. Sorry you were shackled by some redneck fucks, but you're here illegally and that still matters.
Edit:
Holy fucknut I forgot that people born inside the US no matter their parents status are US citizens upon birth. =|
Edit2:
Quit disagreeing with the plain fact that the law is the law, no matter what or the circumstances. Her rights were indeed violated, but she's still illegally here. She may get to stay with her child, or she may be deported and the child put up for adoption, I don't know how they'd handle this matter.

Are you a fucking idiot?
Rights are, by definition, irrevocable.
