I already have a GTX 260, and with my new build, would it be worth it to just buy another GTX 260 or spend the $400 on a new 5870?
SLi GTX 260
if you already have the MoBo/PSU for it, the second 260 would probably be the better choice
depends if you're looking at price/performance or just pure performance
5870 for direct x 11.
Radeon 5870
A 4870 is basically a GTX 260 and the 5870 beats a 4870 x2, and almost has the performace of a GTX 295.

there's this thing called "money" that people use to buy things, people tend to waste as little as they can
5870 for direct x 11.
who gives a flying fuck, it changes fuckall and doesn't improve visuals that the average or even above average gamer would notice, go play STALKER: CoP DX11 maxed out with 40 FPS and then play it at DX10 with 150 FPS and tell me DX11 is better
What's the rest of your system? Screen res? Do you really, really need the 260? The 5870 isn't worth it if you already have a decent card, I think. I would wait for a GTX 480.

That Tessellation maaan
So worth it

So then he should just stick with a low end DX10 card then buy a DX11 card when games start to make full use of it in 6 months? That's the dumbest logic I ever heard...

You don't notice it, at all. Playing with steep parallax looks exactly the same unless for some reason you enjoy walking adjacent to corners all the time.

Where did you get low end DX10 card from? GTX 260 is far from low end for one, and two, instead of paying $400 for a 5870 he could get a 5850. This was more of a rant on all of the 4890 vs 5770 threads lately with people bringing up DX11 as a selling point. The 5770 can't even run DX11 with tessellation at decent speeds so it doesn't even matter.
[editline]f[/editline]
And I didn't even say anything about him not getting the 5870 because it has DX11. I'm saying don't point out DX11 as a selling point.
He should get a 5870 specially for a longer lasting card, as it will help him in the future when DX11 gets more support.
Edit: Don't start DX11 isn't going to get popular, reason DX10 wasn't popular was because of Vista not being big, but with 7 being the fastest selling OS I think we will see DX11 games soon like AvP even though it sucks. :P
Edit Deuce: Odellus I love you. <3

Except it is, right now Nvidia is WAAAAAY behind schedule. There's no point in buying a DX10 or any Nvidia card at this point. Me being an Nvidia fan myself am waiting for the 400 series. I already own a 275 so an upgrade is important for me right now. But if I were to buy a card at this very moment, I would have to go with the ATI 5000 series, they currently have the upper hand.

Look there for continuation of my build

I agree
5870.
5870 because not everygame support SLI so having a single, up-to-date card is better

Get a second GTX 260. You're already half-way to SLI. 5870 would be a waste of money.
sli 5970

Dumb post and you can't sli a 5970 you idiot.

I agree with Ghost. SLI GTX 260 is a $200-$220 purchase compared to a $400 purchase of a HD5870 that give roughly equal performance. Unless you're running at a huge resolution the FPS difference is exceptionally marginal.

Even with correction your post is worthless.

The fact that you used "kid" makes your post meaningless.
