Previously i thought it was my graphics card because i would hear the fans spin down and i'd lose video output, but now it's rebooting. i'm suspecting a PSU issue since my power light kinda flickered before it shutdown, which kinda shows that it wasn't recieving much power. My PSU is an unknown brand, 500w, intel core 2 duo e8400, GTS 250 1GB edition, both with aftermarket coolers, namely the Arctic Twin turbo pro, and the Freezer 13. If i play any graphically intensive game for longer than 10 minutes, it either reboots or loses video output.
How are your temperatures looking when under load? Have you done any overclocking?
Definitely get a new PSU, no matter if it's the issue or not.
I have no current overclocks and temps on everything reach a maximum of 55c on the CPU and a maximum of 48c on full load with the GTS 250.
Do you have another PSU you could swap out to test?
I don't have any replacements, but as an update, i rebooted while on firefox. Kinda puzzles me since neither MSE or MBAM have found any viruses.
I have an idea.
Go to start, and type in "event viewer" in the search. (Assuming this is Windows Vista/7 you are using)
Click Windows Logs, then click System. Sort by date and look for any "error" events prior/at the same time your computer reboots. If there are any errors, screenshot them and show us.
Might sound odd, but my laptop did similar things like this, turns out it was a hardware failure with the network card.
I've checked the event viewer, and there's some weird errors, one is saying that steam isn't a valid windows program. And the computer rebooted again last night for no reason now. I think this started a while back, i'd lose video output while playing call of duty world at war, i'd hear a click and then i'd lose video output..
Mhm, this is what my old HP laptop did...
Can you tell me the other errors? And did they happen around the same time that your computer shut off?
That's it to be honest, and actually based upon timestamps, the errors were after the reboot so it's not related. I believe it's my power supply and i have ordered a new one and a new graphics card as well.
Okay then. I tried. :saddowns:
Ok people, this is fucked, i haven't rebooted and i played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for a while and nothing. oh well, i already bought replacements, and i hope things go well, if anyone would help me with another problem, i don't know too much about installing a graphics card, i know the physical part but about the drivers, will it still output video without drivers so i can install them from the web? Will i need to do anything to the bios?
Of course it will output video...
If it didn't output video before installing drivers, then you wouldn't even be able to install the drivers :v:
Reminds me about this network card that wasn't plug and play and didn't come with a driver CD. How am I supposed to get drivers with no ethernet? :v:
