• Google Voice on Ipod Touch 2G?

This is my first time stepping foot in the apple forum. Basically, I have just acquired (legally) a Ipod Touch 2nd Gen running iOS 4.1. I want to use Google Voice, but I'm not aware of any good applications. If jail-breaking is necessary, I'll do it. And yes, I'm aware that I will need to purchase a microphone.
Google voice isn't a VOIP based service. Your call is still sent over a cellular line, but it calls the Google Voice servers, and then they call the person you want to call. The servers are used for enhanced features, voicemail, and international calling. So this would be impossible to use it for calls with an iPod Touch, due to it not being a phone. You could still use it for listening to voicemails and SMS though. [editline]06:22PM[/editline] Unless I'm misunderstanding what you want to do with it.

It stands to reason that, with the right app, I should be able to do the same from an iPod Touch as long as I have wifi.

There is no VOIP built-in functionality. The app is intended for cell phones. All of the features will work, other than placing calls. You can read voicemail transcriptions, listen to voicemails, and even send SMS messages over a Wifi connection.
There are other apps for this purpose, but there would really be no reason to use Google Voice though other than possibly SMS.

Oh well, on another note: can I jailbreak my iPod? It's a second generation Touch running iOS 4.1. I heard that a jailbreak exists for iPods running 4.1 with a model number that doesn't start with MC. Well mine starts with MB; can I use that jailbreak and if so, what is it? Or is there a better way?
I believe so. I'm running a MB model 2nd gen with iOS 4.0. I believe there is a jailbreak for 4.1. But I'm not 100% sure.
can't you just use skype? that allows voip, i'm sure [editline]08:15PM[/editline]
I believe so. I'm running a MB model 2nd gen with iOS 4.0.
