Donald Trump’s transition team has issued a list of 74 questions for the Energy Department, asking agency officials to identify which employees and contractors have worked on forging an international climate pact as well as domestic efforts to cut the nation’s carbon output.
The questionnaire requests a list of those individuals who have taken part in international climate talks over the past five years and “which programs within DOE are essential to meeting the goals of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan.”
Trump and his team have vowed to dismantle specific aspects of Obama’s climate policies. The questionnaire, which one Energy Department official described as unusually “intrusive” and a matter for departmental lawyers, has raised concern that the Trump transition team is trying to figure out how to target the people, including civil servants, who have helped implement policies under Obama.
Thousands of scientists have signed petitions calling on the president-elect and his team to respect scientific integrity and refrain from singling out individual researchers whose work might conflict with the new administration’s policy goals. This potential clash could prompt a major schism within the federal government, with many career officials waging a battle against incoming political appointees.
While there have been many instances of political appointees and career scientists clashing in various administrations, what appears to be novel here is the request for the names of so many individual scientists, and the fact that it comes during the transition period, before the Trump administration has even taken power. This may be a signal of even more intense politicization after the inauguration.
Yale University environmental historian Paul Sabin said in an interview that previous administrations have worked to install like-minded energy and environmental experts in key agencies, often at the expense of employees from previous administrations.
“But what seems unusual is singling people out for a very specific substantive issue, and treating their work on that substantive issue as, by default, contaminating or disqualifying,” Sabin said, adding that officials can now track a civil servant’s past activities “in such a systematic way.”
EU and Asian countries are going to be welcoming U.S. climate scientists with open arms soon enough.
But Big Government influence is bad, right Conservatives?

Asian yes, EU no
Sometimes, reading all those headlines, makes me almost wish for a nuclear war. He ain't the president in charge and yet is going to fuck up everything soon not only in the US, but even in the world.
And I seriously am afraid of what's coming in 2017
Not ominous or chilling at all, I assure you.
You're draining the reservoir, not the swamp, you fucking idiot
You're draining the reservoir, not the swamp, you fucking idiot
In Trump's eyes, the reservoir is the swamp. Anybody who is so selfish and cruel enough so as to impede the humble and gracious corporations' god-given ~'Murican~ rights to make a profit is a part of the swamp.
Thomas Pyle, who heads AEA, leads Trump’s Energy Department transition team. In a recent fundraising pitch, Pyle wrote supporters: “After eight years of the Obama administration’s divisive energy and environmental policies, the American people have voted for a change — a big change. We expect the Trump administration will adopt pro-energy and pro-market policies — much different than the Obama administration’s top-down government approach.
What he fails to mention is that they'll be pro-oil and thus anti-environment.
Surely even Trump's most hardcore supporters realise that this is going to cause unholy hell and have terrible consequences for decades after Trump's presidency? Why is there not more talk about this?

They either think Climate Change is a partisan conspiracy made by the left, or that it is an inevitable force of nature that is pointless to try and mitigate. I've even seen some people try to use the excuse that "Data of global climate change only goes so many years back - we didn't have the technology to measure it back then!".
I won't accept any answer other than pure blindness or selfish economic interest. Those have to be the reasons you'd ignore the dangers Trump posed to the environment.
Gee I wonder if Trump can top my expectations again for how scary this administration is by actually taking legal action against these people.

I feel like we should do the same back, and make a comprehensive and redundant list of everyone that spoke out against climate change science, people like this who deny it, etc. I mean, it's no worse than what the Trump administration seems to be doing right now.
Can't say if it'll ever really bring justice, probably just a feelgood measure, but I like the idea of there being a permanent historical black mark on the names of everyone who's working to sell out humanity to line their pockets.

Holy shit I have yet to see a more accurate representation of Trump's electoral victory.

Fucking seriously. Obama wasn't completely faultless, but he was a damn good president in several ways.
well he isn't wrong, the american people voted for a change and we have one hell of a change coming for us
I just hate that quintessential 21st century Republican tone that's like:
["American people"]+[Talks about a democratic policy that actually works like it's the holocaust]+[proposes intentionally ruining the economy instead]
But Big Government influence is bad, right Conservatives?
The Republicans always seemed to push Big Government a hell of a lot more than the Democrats despite their platform claiming to be against it. Particularly when it's telling people how they can or cannot live their lives despite the whole freedom thing.
The only times they aren't are when they're handing corporations free reigns to fuck up the economy again.
well he isn't wrong, the american people voted for a change and we have one hell of a change coming for us
the statistics would like to disagree, people voted for the tangerine orangutan and whatever name was first on the ticket. the house's makeup actually slid very slightly democrat while the senate basically remained exactly the same.
The American people voted for Hillary by more than 2.8 million votes. Our system chose Trump, or if you want to be more specific some mad people in a couple swing states chose Trump, fair and square sure, but let's try not to rewrite history.
Democrats better grow some balls if this is the norm.

that list likely would also be used as a target book for assassination

I showed it to a "friend" after we had a political conversation, and he said it reminded him of Obama's administration.
The stupidity of these people is absolutely astounding.
DOE is now refusing to provide the incoming administration with any non-public information--essentially denying its request. Will find more sources and update as necessary.
On Tuesday, the department released a statement saying the questionnaire had "unsettled" many in its workforce, that it would "be forthcoming with all [publicly] available information" but it would withhold "any individual names."
"We are going to respect the professional and scientific integrity and independence of our employees at our labs and across our department," said spokesman Eben Burnham-Snyder.
The system is the electoral college, and the electoral college [del]picked[/del] is going to pick Trump. I don't like it, you don't like it, but that is [del]what's history now[/del] what's going to be history on December 19.

No, the electoral college has not picked Trump. They haven't voted yet.

I respect your scrutiny. At risk of making a fool of myself, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I am 100% sure the electoral college will pick Trump.

Not gonna doubt they will, though things are a bit crazy at the moment. The votes are cast next Monday, we'll find out then.

As many have stated before me, it's the difference between a trashcan and entire landfill that's leaking into the ocean
Edit: the landfill being the result we'll get if the electoral college don't change their mind
