Failed Clay Sentry

So I've decided to make a Team Fortress 2 level 1 sentry model out of modeling clay/plasticine. This is the end result. It looks as if the sentry gun has melted. Well this is my first attempt using modeling clay to create Team fortress 2 stuff. It's not very accurate but you'll get the picture.

The blue one looks alright but the red one looks horrifying. Well I guess i could say, it's hard to stay in shape when you are a clay

Yes, tell me about it! I'm a clay and it seems like no matter how many pushups I do I just can't keep well-toned.

If you want more control over the clay then you should try making the pieces at a larger size, also it would be good to use clay shaping tools for tough to reach spots and to get that sort of precision in mechanical parts that one comes to expect.

You should use that clay you can bake to make it hard, and it might hold up better.

It's not the clay that's the problem. You need to create a stiff skeleton out of wires to mold the clay around. That's how sculptors make most figurines.
