• I hit someone's bumper and left some scratches. How much do I owe him? *pic*

Alright so I feel like an idiot. It was at a stoplight and I was paying attention to my phone. I thought I could go because I saw the green light out of the corner of my eye and tapped the gas. Unfortunately, because I'm an idiot, I didnt pay attention to the car still sitting in front of me and scratched up the bumper. I'm trying not to go through insurance so I'm just wondering how much you guys think this will cost. There's no police report or anythingr we just exchanged numbers and I gave him my policy number. picture is broken for me.
Fixed sorry about that.
$20 if that. [editline]14th November 2013[/editline] It's just scuffed paint, it'll buff right out.
I wouldn't give him anything.
Offer him to have the car's exterior detailed and a bottle of good touch up paint, that's about tops.
Probably about $500 to get the bumper repainted. Sorry mate, as long as my car was in good shape I and I wasn't at fault I'd want my bumper repainted to look factory again, assuming all those scratches are from you. Whether you pay for it or your insurance does, it'd be getting sprayed.
if it were me that was rear-ended, I'd be having the bumper replaced, at your cost this is not what you think you owe him this is what he thinks you owe him he can go after your insurance even if you don't want to, and you're 100% at fault you have to match whatever he wants or else he will go for insurance [editline]14th November 2013[/editline] also put down the fucking phone when you're driving jesus christ
I'll go with the two above me, if someone rear ended me like that, even if all it left would be those scratches. I would have them to pay me a new bumper paint, why? Because it's not my fault at all and that's probably what this guy thinks. Let's face it, if it wasn't from you, his car wouldn't be scratched like that. You can see the black plastic, meaning that a detail job won't fix this, it's either a touch up if the guy don't care about his car, or a re-spray if the guy care about his car. You are 100% at fault on this. Either get your insurance to cover the fees to repair his bumper, or find him a body shop to repaint that or if he doesn't care, some touch up. Drop that darned phone and don't make this happen again. Now you learn of these kind of experiences and hopefully there won't be a next time.
That's why I recommended the detail and some touch up paint, $20 is a fucking insult and anything less than that I would tell them to shove it up their ass or I'm taking my deductible out of their face. If he won't go for a nice detail and some touchup paint custom ordered for his car, then you're basically screwed.
Whether the guy cares about his car or not, he will probably want a bunch of money. I know quite a few people would claim $500 for a new bumper+paint, then either do nothing or just get touch up paint. A new bumper for my car from a dealer is $200, and having a shop spray it is $100ish
$20 if that. [editline]14th November 2013[/editline] It's just scuffed paint, it'll buff right out.
Sorry mate but paint doesn't turn black when its just a light scrach... But ABS bumpers are black. Can't buff out scratches where there isn't any paint. I wish it were that simple so I didn't have to look at the bumper of my city driven civic haha. Everyone has pretty much covered it in detail. If he's nice about it and doesn't mind touchup paint, maybe he'd be willing to cut some corners and get a junkyard bumper in good condition (although this is probably still in better condition) and have that sprayed. Thats what my buddy did and he actually saved money than buying a bumper from the dealership and then getting it painted, and it looks factory fresh.
If someone did that to my car, I wouldn't care. There are worse spots on my shell. It's called a bumper, that's what it does and what it's there for. You bumped it. Whoopdeefreakingdo. Ask for this to be settled away from insurance issues but out-of-pocket. Ask the guy what he wants. Be polite and apologetic. No need to give him more than he bargained for honestly

If body shops resprayed bumpers for $100 there would be a lot nicer looking cars out there. Heck, *I* don't even shoot a bumper for $100 w/ materials. Materials themselves are probably like $50-$75 depending on quality, maybe more.
I'd doubt you could or should get a bumper respray for $100. Usually they require a flexible primer, that is not cheap or easily found. Likely if someone hit my bumper - their windows would explode and the car would crumple into a tin can and then I would tell their lifeless corpse that they will be buffing the scuff out of my chrome.
OP. your fucked. Your best bet is hope to fuckign hell he/she is nice as fuck and wont rip you a new asshole.
I'd doubt you could or should get a bumper respray for $100. I pushed my friends Lincoln continental mk3 at a intersection, did nothing to his car but mine had deep ass groves in the bumper. But if you put a dent in the motherfucker your coming to my house and using a heat gun to take it out slowly.
My front bumper, I don't really care, it was a mess when I got the car. But God help you if you so much as look at my rear bumper funny.

I know a few thatd do a bumper for $100 including them doing the prep work $75 seems like quite a bit for just a bumper. I did my entire car for ~$100 including cost of all materials
Jeezus that's some cheap product. Good clear is like $200 a gallon for clear and activator, that's like probably $40 for a pint w/ activator once you cut it down. $30 for a quart of base activator, $40 for a quart of base, and figure that $40 or so for primer and activator, not to mention flex additive. I feel like anything less than $100/gal for clear is gonna net you garbage, and if the finish isn't nice it's trouble. Now... if we're getting cars sprayed in compton or mexico prices may vary.
Never mind, sorry. I was being hypocritical.

Very easy to fix if i do scratch it, just sand real quick, clean with ammonia, then grab a paint roller and roll some paint on. Always end up with a uniform finish. I personally like the textured look, it ends up giving it a satin kind of finish. It also works good on plastic. The only part ive had come off is where i rushed on the front bumper, then hit a board hard that was in a mud puddle It took 3qts at $15 per quart. I do wish i spray painted, lately ive been able to get results better than oem paint. Id never spend that much on paint. I can do primer, paint, and clear on my car for about $100 and get the same results
do you live out in the sticks or what I'd never take a PAINT ROLLER to my car, EVER. Proper painting at a small scale is done with real OEM paint and a compressed air powered sprayer meant for detail work, not a paint roller and home depot paint like you're redoing your backyard barn.
I had great luck using a paint roller. Back in the old days, some people used paint rollers and ended up with paint better than oem. These days, people dont do it quite as much. Ive seen a few muscle car restorers do it and end up with paint that looks as good as professionally done paint. I dont ever plan on using a spray gun and air compressor. After using the roller and the spray paint, a spray gun and compressor is really over doing it. This is my car after about a year and a half of being rolled (bit dirty, been a month or more since last washed) [t]http://i.imgur.com/NP4GKiu.jpg[/t] Im pretty happy with how it came out. Only issue i had was not being able to find a wide enough roller, which ended up causing some issues on the hood
That's far from better than oem though, that's even greater than the distance between Australia and the dream of sleeping without dangerous spiders crawling around.
That's far from better than oem though.
To me, its better than the OEM paint i had. Also, never said my paint looks oem. In fact, i said the opposite. Learn to read
Might not have said that your job looked better than oem, but you did say, and I quote,
I do wish i spray painted, lately ive been able to get results better than oem paint.
I don't see any "Better than my OLD oem paint". Learn to write. If your paint was worse than a skinned pig, maybe it looks better, because your oem paint was shit, but otherwise, this ain't even close to what it looked oem.

In the same sentence you quoted, i said spray paint. My car is not spray painted. Therefor, you should have easily seen that i meant that on other things that i have spray painted, i have acquired a look that is oem In my previous post, i said
Always end up with a uniform finish. I personally like the textured look, it ends up giving it a satin kind of finish
Last i knew, oem paint does not have a textured finish and usually not satin
I don't even know why I argue with you, you're not even worth my time. Now let's not make a few pages like in previous threads.
I don't even know why I argue with you, you're not even worth my time. Now let's not make a few pages like in previous threads.
I dont know why i argue with you either. You seem to be a mentally retarded Canadian. Firstly, you drive a 'special edition' Comp-G FWD-shitbox Grand Prix and act like its actually a good car. FFS, they couldn't atleast make the thing rear wheel drive to try and distract people from the fact that its a Grand Prix that grandmothers everywhere love. Secondly, you enjoy bragging about mild winters when places hundreds of miles south of you apparently have the same amount of snowfall, along with similar levels of rain/ice. You also seem to think that you will die the second you take out all seasons in your mild winters. It may just be the FWD grannymobile, or you're a piss-poor driver. Either way, it's pretty silly when people several hundred miles south, driving similar wrong wheel drive Pontiacs, in similar winter conditions, do just fine with half bald all seasons. AA was once a fine place where everyone got along, 'till people like you started showing up :v: Slade Xanthas isn't much better. Fuck, everytime i see he/she/its title and that creeper avatar, i can't help but think it is the kind of person that's a bit odd in the head and collects animal dildo's or some other weird shit. Man, i've been part of this community for, what, five years now? And i've enjoyed it until recently. But fuck, the quality has sure gone down lately and i dont want to be a part of a community where a guy pretty much cant state his own opinion without a Handicapped Canadian and a dragon dealdo furrything bitching at them (User was banned for this post ("Flaming" - Swebonny))
Ok guys. Stop. I don't want you to leave like bradley did. Let's just all try to get along.
Throwing around insults and talking shit about other people's cars isn't gonna improve the "community" either.
