Police in NI have said it was "inappropriate" for an officer to play "ice-cream van" music in an attempt to calm youths attacking a vehicle. Young people were throwing bottles at a Land Rover vehicle in Lisburn last Saturday when the officer used the tannoy to play the tunes. A police spokesperson said an officer had used humour to defuse the situation and the trouble had stopped. However, senior officers are believed to have spoken to the officer involved. Police were called to Glasvey Drive in Twinbrook on 22 May where they passed a group of about 15 youths who began throwing bottles at their vehicle. A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "An officer used the vehicle's tannoy system to play music to the youths in an effort to use humour to defuse the situation. "The youths stopped throwing the bottles. However, police accept that this was not an appropriate action. "The officer has been spoken to by a senior officer in order to establish the circumstances of the incident." Sinn Fein councillor Angela Nelson told the Andersonstown News that the officer's actions "beggared belief". "The PSNI are put on the streets to do a serious job and that is to keep order on the streets and face down anti-social elements. This is like a sick joke. "It goes against everything we are trying to solve and eradicate in the area."
99 Flake, with Source Incoming puns in 3... 2... 1...
The cops really know how to CHILL people out.
nice
Those were some ICE COLD tactics from the officer.
Looks like the officer had to face the muzak.
That's an incredible idea. :v:
I don't see how it's inappropriate. Why shouldn't they be allowed to have fun for once, especially if it actually helps fight crime and shit.
Idiots.. He solved the problem, why would you punish him?
Well I would start laughing at that car. But I wouldnt throw shit at it in the first place. Wait, why are the Tunes for that in the Computer anyway?
Those senior officers were acting rather coldly.
I don't really feel the officer should be reprimanded for what was actually pretty clever. Though it's true, playing ice cream music isn't the proper response. Tear gas is.
"It goes against everything we are trying to solve and eradicate in the area."
Please don't eradicate ice cream. :saddowns:
how soothing
Hurrah for our beloved Northern Irish police force. :v: Although the officer getting punished for something both clever and humorous is bullshit.
That's what ice cream trucks in Silent Hill would sound like.
Not Ice T, not Ice cube, ICE CREAM!
how soothing
lol at the very end he gets a customer.. :smug:
It is widely known that Chavs being calmed by ice cream music is not too far-fetched, given their level of intelligence.
It's pretty stupid that he might be getting punished for this, when those police officers a while back didn't get punished for sledding on their riot shields..
icy what the officer did there.
That man puts the ICE in JUSTICE.
I'm sure those kids were potential ... cold... blooded murders.
Colhearted punks. Their chilly dispositions are most likely the result of being frozen out by their cold, delicious parents. [editline]02:01PM[/editline] *distant parents [editline]02:01PM[/editline] I got lost in the puns.
Glad to see the police breaking the ice with teenagers over some good ol' ice-cream.
Those cops sure know how to stay FROSTY in the heat of battle. JustICE never tasted so good.
The commanding officer probably told him good job lol, I can't imagine they actually punished him. Probably just used that for the news.
I don't why they're punishing the officer, he solved the problem with pacifism. But, too many puns!
If it works...
British policemen aren't armed with guns, so they have to be clever to solve riots.
British policemen aren't armed with guns, so they have to be clever to solve riots.
They do in NI. Plus, for anybody who was wondering, they also drive big ol' armoured cars.
