Myanmar’s military has admitted that its soldiers murdered 10 captured Rohingyawho it claims were “terrorists” during insurgent attacks at the beginning of September, after local Buddhist villagers had forced the men into a grave they had dug. “Villagers and members of the security forces have confessed that they committed murder,” the military said in a statement. It was a rare admission of wrongdoing by the Myanmar military during its operations in the western state of Rakhine. The army launched a sweeping counteroffensive in the north of the state in response to Rohingya militant attacks on 25 August, triggering an exodus of more than 650,000 Rohingya Muslim villagers.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/11/myanmar-military-admits-murder-rohingya-muslims No fucking shit
we say things about countries like north korea and condemn them but when we have genocide occurring in our sights we don't even bat an eyelid. some things that happen are truly sickening.
Just ten?
Just ten?
What a relief.
if it was so bad they had to fess up to 10 imagine what the real numbers are like
I refuse to believe only ten were executed. As I remembred correctly, thousands of Rohingya Muslims tried to escape to bordering Thailand and India.

But yes, the likely kill count is probably much higher, but they won't admit as such for obvious reasons.
I think it's worth pointing out that we gave Aung San Suu Kyi a Nobel Peace Prize not too long ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aung_San_Suu_Kyi#Criticism And yet she's saying nothing about the persecution of the Rohingya in her own country.

Basically, the situation is similar to that of Pakistan's, which has a history of military-backed coups - the real power is in the hands of the military, not the government. Turns out, she really prefers being top dog and sitting in the big boy seat than actually giving a shit about the Rohingyas.
