Hey, I know this is probably really stupid, but I don't want to spend any money on VR yet and was wondering if there's any possible way to somehow stream steam to your phone and use google cardboard for VR. I know it will look bad or something, I'm just curious if it's possible. I don't know if this is the right section for this, sorry if so.
So far the best "VR" solution for using Cardboard on PC that I know of is Trinus VR. That doesn't support Vive/Oculus/etc programs.
wow, it worked.
You're way better finding a demo of a real headset than using a Cardboard. If you're on the fence about buying VR, a Cardboard isnt even going to give you a slightly relevant look at what consumer-grade VR is actually like.
Jesus Christ dont use cardboard

Cardboard is great for a super short demo but it's cool after "Oh its actually 3d" wears off and then you realize that a vive or rift or Razor VR is 100% with the money compared to a box and some plastic lenses
You can use VRidge from Riftcat. They have custom drivers that allows you to play SteamVR and Rift games through your Cardbox. You will need to use a wired connection to get a decent quality.
It's in open beta till June 20, and after that it's a small one time cost (I think at least, not sure). I've tried it with SteamVR and it works flawlessly, just that the quality is pretty bad for small details.
I do have to say. Using it for stuff like Virtual Desktop and some games that don't require the controllers has given me quite the giggle and makes me soon want to buy one of the devices.

yea i was on the fence about vr until i waited in line for like 2 hours at london comic con to use one and holy shit was it worth it, find your nearest video game related event and see if theyre demoing vives cause it's incredibly good..
it's nothing like you'd expect (at least, not what i expected) and not even close to what you get from google cardboard.
