Well, I got a 425W PSU, and it powers my system just fine, now I'm considering to buy a 4870, the site recommends a 450W PSU. I know most sites are a little over what you actually need.
The card I got right now is 4830, and runs just fine. I'm on my laptop right now, so I can't give you detailed specs, but this is pretty close, and I guess it's what you need;
4GB DDR2 RAM at 667MHz
Intel Core 2 Duo T9300
As I recall it my mobo is a MS-9803
Would I need a new PSU to power all this?
BTW; I know the mobo only got a PCI-E 16x slot and not 2.0. I'm aware of that, and I will be changing my mobo, when the time comes.
Budget? Country?
If your PSU is just a generic brand then it won't be enough for a 4870

This. Also why are you using a mobile cpu?
4830 to 4870 isn't worth the cost
It's about the double performance from the benchmarks I've seen. I just want to play games like BFBC2 and Fallout: New Vegas, when it comes out. My PSU is a enermax 82+ Pro, I think. I'm going to look into it.
I really don't want to have to buy a new PSU seing it as I'm pretty low on money. And I'm in Denmark so the prices suck ass. The 4870 alone will cost 200 bucks.
I've looked at the OCZ stealhstreame, is it any good? It's a 500w.
Save up until you have enough money for both. If the PSU would fail, there's a huge chance that it'll take something else with it, making it even more expensive.
The psu have not failed for a year, and it has been running fine. I got the money, but I would really prefer not to have to buy a new. If I were to get a new PSU, I ask, as I did in my other post, is the OCZ stealthstream reliable? Cause it's realtively cheap (about 80$, remember, this is Denmark), and it got what I want.

Found a picture of my PSU. And a Newegg link:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194059&Tpk=enermax%2082%2b%20pro
I don't think I need a new one, this one seems pretty decent.
IIRC Enermax is a shit brand.
Fair enough. But will shit work with it goddammit?!
It will work, but I dunno, it's a bit risky.
THe PSU is so bad?
what psu do you have now, if it's a decent brand it can probably power a 4870
Buy a new one.

It's a Enermax 82+ Pro, and I gave a Newegg link. The link goes to the 525W edition, but still, it's the same model besides that.

I figured ut that if I need a new PSU, why don't buy a better graphics card? So here in Denmark, I found the 4890 for about 200DKK (about 30$) more than the 4870, and from the benchmarks I've seen it performs about the same as the 5830, which is around 100$ more than the 4870. The next upgrade would be the 5850, but it costs even more than the 5830 (obciously), and I'm not interested in spending that much money, since it's almost x2 my original budget. I'm pretty confident that it'll fit in my case, but only by like, 1".
My case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811196028
The 4** series are out of quistion, since nVidia cards are heavily overpriced in Denmark.
And I broke my automerge.
That's indeed a strange looking case.
I like it because, I don't like to have my tower on the floor. This fit's perfectly with my cd player and such..

I got a new mouse and such since then, but this is pretty much my computer..

I bought a 750, it was cheap as hell. $60.
Good guess! That's for 5-6 years ago.. And the smaller boy on the right is my little bro.
And if your PSU can do it I guess my can do it too. Besides I found a chart for power consumption, and the 4890 requires 280W on full load. I guess it'll work.
After a little researching I found out this PSU is indeed enough for a 4870, it even says the specific GPU is good enough on AMD's website. Someone is this thread stated that the 4870 isn't a huge upgrade from a a 4830, so I thought of getting a 4890. I feel secure after seeing these charts: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2745/22
I know it can be a little bit off, but I'm running a Mini-ITX and a mobile CPU, so I'm pretty confident it wont consume more than the 425Watts I got. And the AMD website is one the secure side when they say 425W is enough for a 450W GPU, so I think I'm going for the 4890. Thanks for the help everyone who helped!
Enermax is fine.
Thanks, that was what I was confident on, until someone said it was shit.
