If you want, you can post your experiments too! Well, 2 weeks ago I posted on my blog a quick experiment that I filmed on my balcony: producing hydrogen from aluminium, water and NaOH. It's an exothermic reaction(meaning that it produces a lot of heat, at a point in time the water begins to boil). Well, I'm posting this here just in case there are science-interested fellows around here or if you're just curious. In the end, the balloon explodes :D. Here's the link for it. I'm sure I wrote a warning on my blog or in the video, but I will repeat it: PLEASE DON'T DO THIS UNLESS YOU PERFECTLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Also, WEAR GLASSES AND GLOVES. NaOH is dangerous!
I can make a card levitate using a beer can, a couple of batteries, cellphone, a dime and a CD.. Anyone know what frozen orange juice, detergent, and gasoline make? lol Chlorine and Ammonia? Your kitchen is full of goodies to do stuff with..
Fast threads, thank you and I am off!
I was thinking of posting this there, but I don't necessarily think this is a fast thread just because I said "post your" :). Especially because on science experiments you have to discuss details some times.
Tell me about some experiments that may look cool when filmed in 600+ frames per second and then slowed down to 30. (High speed cameras up this bitch) Then I'll MAYBE film it if the weather is nice and I manage to get the needed ingredients.

Try my experiment :P (although if you can't do what I did, you can look on my blog at the "science" page and click on "Methods of producing hydrogen", and look after electrolysis).

(In my case, a firework) 3 - Shoot the lighter with something poweful enough to make the plastic shatter. 4 - Make sure there's plenty of dry grass surrounding it. :v: [sp]it wasn't dry[/sp] Here's the results: (Sorry for the quality and the fact that it takes 22MB of space, also, let it load.)

It wasn't dry at all, I don't think I've ever heard about a forest fire in Norway. Look at the wood, it was raining a couple of hours before I did this.

I found an old smoke alarm in my shed and after taking it apart noticed a component inside, a short and stout cylinder, with a radiation stamp on the top and 'Radioactive Material' written underneath. Any ideas what fun could be had with this.

Someone actually tried this by using the Americium in smoke alarms, his name was David Hahn and he ended up looking like this: Also, here's an article about the radioactive material you found in your fire alarm, Americium-241. :science: [editline]04:21AM[/editline]
Ummm... exploding a hydrogen filled balloon? Well, I can always do it with Caustic Soda (NaOH) and aluminium. [editline]04:32AM[/editline] I really want to heat up/freeze sterilised water. Boil: Will not start boiling at 100C, you can heat it up to a lot more. But after the heating process, if you add anything that de-sterilises it, you'll have an explosion of boiling water. Freeze: It will not freeze at 0C, though if you de-sterilise it, in this case by touching it, it'll freeze almost instantly.
Pour gasoline on styrofoam and then light it on fire.
Take a 2 Gallon milk bottle. Fill it 1/3 way with vodka (regular) Attach an M-80 to the cap, with a small hole so the fuse sticks out of the cap. Leave it sideways in a clear area for 10 minutes in direct sunlight, this way the vodka evaporates. Light the fuse and FUCKING RUN!!! Boom.
ITT: People play with fire and don't follow the scientific method.
@paul simon: Cool gif man! What did you use to film that? I'm going to soon buy a Nikon Coolpix P100, but that only films at a max 240fps :).
Zinc and Hydrocloric Acid also produces Hydrogen
You can always try vinegar. Or concentrated vinegar(acetic acid), if you have some.
I found an old smoke alarm in my shed and after taking it apart noticed a component inside, a short and stout cylinder, with a radiation stamp on the top and 'Radioactive Material' written underneath
That is a very small amount of radioactive material, and i believe that it only releases alpha radiation. (the least fun type) Alpha radiation has very little energy and a few other things about how it uses particles and whatnot, meaning it can't got through a piece of paper. When smoke enters the alarm the smoke particles block the radiation and the detector no longer picks it up. It realises this and sets off the alarm. :science: And for a quick experiment: Bicarbonate of soda + vinegar = super effective!
tiny tin foil balls and brake fluid... shake and toss [editline]05:37AM[/editline]
Boil: Will not start boiling at 100C, you can heat it up to a lot more.
Casio Exilim EX-F1, I can film in up tp 1200fps, and I can also film in 1920 x 1080 @ 60fps. Funny thing is that it looks like a normal DSLR camera. [editline]03:19PM[/editline] Of course, I'm not stupid enough to use this fucker without proper protection.
I can perform the metabolic reactions that convert alcohol into waste products :downs: And perform qualitative analysis of blood spatters
Can't wait to do this with a laser: (Seems like Dropbox doesn't like much traffic, had to change to filesmelt...)
Paul and free man rated informative. My dreams however, crushed. I might use them to make a neutron gun and try this instead:

X ray generator you say? Highly lethal radiation source? What could possibly go wrong bro?
What could possibly go wrong bro?
I am hoping for tentacles and laser eyes. Although ball-cancer is the most likely outcome
There's one experiment I've seen where two randomly selected strangers are asked to sit face to face and stare at each other for an hour or so. It's really fucking interesting. Why can't I find anything about this experiment, or anything similar? Can anyone help me out?
Here's a safe one that you can perform with a group of friends around you or in the kitchen at home with your mother. 1. Get a bottle 2. Fill with milk 3. Put in some chlorine 4. Close bottle 5. Shake 6. Put near your face 7. Wait 8. Observe spectacular mixture show amazing colours and beautiful textures!
