The message, delivered behind closed doors in a private briefing, is part of the campaign's intensifying effort to convince party leaders Trump will moderate his tone in the coming months to help deliver big electoral gains this fall, despite his contentious ways.

"When he's out on the stage, when he's talking about the kinds of things he's talking about on the stump, he's projecting an image that's for that purpose," Manafort said in a private briefing. "You'll start to see more depth of the person, the real person. You'll see a real different guy," he said. The Associated Press obtained a recording of the closed-door exchange. "He gets it," Manafort said of Trump's need to moderate his personality. "The part that he's been playing is evolving into the part that now you've been expecting, but he wasn't ready for, because he had first to complete the first phase. The negatives will come down. The image is going to change." The message was welcomed by some party officials but criticized by others who suggested it raised doubts about his authenticity.
I'm sure they're right but honestly I'd be surprised to see a presidential candidate who wasn't projecting some sort of image to garner votes.
Ahahahahaha Called it, Trump's been playing his supporters for fools to win the nomination and will now shamelessly renege on everything and go back to being the near-liberal he was 10 years ago.
Of course he is, most of the early primary states on the republican side are the more extreme ones, and if you don't appeal to them you have zero momentum and the media will show you that way. He's pretty much RINO, most of his views sans environmentalism and foreign policy are fairly liberal. The plans and such he releases on his website are quite agreeable, a stark contrast to the act he puts on at rallies and debates for attention. He's always been a huge liberal anyway, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that actually did self-research on trump instead of just listening to what the media has been spewing.
"projecting an image"
Yeah uh that's called lying. But it's Trump, who would be surprised?
It's really getting old with people blaming the media, the media is guilty of one thing and that is over broadcasting trump.
That's because he's been playing them for fools. The media is clearly on Hillary's side, I'd imagine the same people she's giving private speeches to are shelling out millions to the news companies as well. Trump knows this, so he knows he can say something stupid or outlandish and get a free week of coverage because they are desperate to make him look bad, and then come on an interview later and flip it around on them. Look at the 7/11 thing, that happened like 4 days ago and I'm still seeing it on morning news. They might be trying to make him look bad, but his name is still the one in the spotlight.
Yeah uh that's called lying. But it's Trump, who would be surprised?
When you go for a job interview you are projecting an image. You are trying to make yourself appeal to those who are hiring you, it doesn't mean you're lying. Trump is in a year-long job interview at 50 different locations, of course he is going to be projecting a different image as he continues campaigning.
Yeah uh that's called lying. But it's Trump, who would be surprised?
Its called politics Literally every candidate does this to some extent

Will the real Donald Trump please stand up?
Its called politics Literally every candidate does this to some extent
"To some extent" is stretching the truth, but Trump is a massive liar Now just compare that to what Hillary Clinton says, whom everyone considers to be "the biggest liar" of the campaigns
Ive seen people saying Politifact is biased towards Sanders but it looks like they list Clinton as being more truthful than him.
They're both fairly truthful, and both faaar more truthful than Trump.

Is Trump a full on liberal catering to a loud right wing demographic? Or did he legitimately get more conservative in his later years? Could it be that, just like any normal person, he has differing opinions on a variety of topics, his self-established explicitness being what allows him to actually share them regardless of expectations? Of course there's some pandering in there, but far does it go? Could he not turn out to be this liberal master of deceit you claim and still not be big on abortion? Or have unrealistic expectations for border security? Or want a free market inspired healthcare reform? And if he ever got elected, could he not give in to pandering when actually putting his policies into practice?
I will die laughing if all of this turns out to be a massive farce and his policies are almost nothing like he's been acting they are for a year. If that is seriously his strategy, then holy shit I would pay good money just to shake that glorious bastards hand.
If this is his strategy, it's pretty dumb and isn't going to work

When he heads north he will become Perfect Trump.
i was only pretending
If this is his strategy, it's pretty dumb and isn't going to work
It did so far. I am seriously rooting for Trump becoming president, as it is one of the most amusing things that could happen to world for the next couple of years.

If nominated (which is still far from certain) he'll be the least popular major party nominee in decades. And it won't be amusing for the people who will suffer under a Trump presidency.

I rather have the retard who can't do the job, than that witch.

This is especially good considering Trumps whole stance is "Screw conventional politics, I'm being honest!"

This is very much in-line with what I thought he'd do once he wraps up the nomination. Earlier in a townhall he said he'd be very much in favor of raising taxes on the very rich, himself included, though I'd take that with a grain of salt.
Just a prank bro...
I honestly don't know what to think. You either have a Trump who believes in his terrible policies, or a Trump who will say just about anything to get the vote.
