UPDATE
A wildlife expert has now said Jericho is alive and well. Brent StapelKamp exclusively told the Mirror: "I still believe he is alive and well. Nothing I see worries me at all.
"He has only moved nine metres since the last reading at around 8pm and he has only moved 179 metres since 6pm.
"This is probably because he has been feeding. A lion tends to get up and move a little bit and then get down. They are very lazy beasts.
"He is still with the female and has been all day."
Mr StapelKamp revealed he would be driving to the GPS readings early tomorrow morning to set eyes on the beast.
He said: "I'm not worried at all"
UPDATE 2
Jericho lives
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CLZKMi-WsAAb9Ev.jpg:orig[/t]
Mistaken Identity - Jericho is in fact alive and well and has adopted Cecil's cubs. We were given 3 separate confirmed reports last night that is was Jericho. We could not reach the research station in Hwange to verify if Jericho was indeed alive after they reported that they were receiving signal from his collar.
We apologize for reporting that he had died but were confident that our sources were in fact correct. This was a case of mistaken identity, but a lion has in fact been killed...although we are relieved that it was not Jericho, we are not happy that yet another lion has been killed...
I heard Jericho would have killed Cecil's cubs? Is that not true?
Apparently he was protecting both his cubs and Cecil's from other lions in the area.

Lions are known to commit infanticide, but I'm not sure if he would since it was his brother's cubs. It could have happened, out of rivalry and so he could have his own litter.
what a mess this has become.
Why the fuck this time ??
Is it natural for lions from the same lineage to protect each others cubs, or is this case the extraordinary exception to the rule?
If you listen closely you will hear the sound of a thousand journalists searching for lion shootings to report on.
This is just sad.
That is some bad luck right there.
Oh come on dude its as if you never fuckin watched the lion king, what about those simbas man, what about them
fuck you

Some news outlets mixed up "Jericho would protect Cecil's cubs from other rival males" with the notion that Jericho was a rival male that would kill Cecil's cubs.
Honestly, this story makes me tangibly angry. Even moreso when I learned that the asshole that shot Cecil was apparently trying to set up another canned hunt where he'd get to shoot a massive bull elephant. I hope we throw his ass to the Zimbabwean government.

The White House are looking into the extradition after a petition got more than 100,000 signatures (currently at 220,000 or something)
Isn't it illegal to sell lion-based products anyway?
I heard Jericho would have killed Cecil's cubs? Is that not true?
Male lions won't commit infanticide on a brother's Cubs, IIRC
A researcher monitoring the tracking collar denied these news.
My hunch is that a different lion was illegally killed, but it's likely going to be cleared up in the next few hours.
That's good to hear I think. Seems too much of a coincidence for the brother of Cecil to die just days later. When will people learn accidentally or not that poaching is illegal with varying sentences on the crime?
Isn't it illegal to sell lion-based products anyway?
Black market doesn't care. If there's demand it will be sold.
Isn't it illegal to sell lion-based products anyway?
These lions being shot have nothing to do with selling shit from lions.
It's all perverse bloodsport for rich western people, so they can get a picture with a dead lion and them on it.
Somebody at work showed me this and the source was Daily Mail and it was so poorly reported on that I called it fake immediately. I'm glad that the researching is saying it is.
I so hope this isn't true, seriously if they wanna sort this out gladly give me a rifle and a vehicle and i'll happily prowl the african plains shooting and dickhead illegal hunters.

What the fuck? Really? Are you serious? How long has it even been... feel bad for those cubs lmao

I really hope the US government sends him over simply because of this petition.
If there's an actual, legal reason to send him over that both the US government and Zimbabwe agree on, then do it. But because the masses are crying foul is no reason to send a man to what will most likely be a kangaroo court.
It'll be the literal definition of tyranny of the majority.

Tyranny of the majority is what people want nowadays.

That doesn't mean it should be given to them.
Just updated OP due to conflicting reports that he may still be alive. A researcher has said he is going to go to the location of the tracking collar and check it out for himself.
Stapelkamp said he would be checking in on the data again at 10.06pm local time. “Certainly, I’ve been asked to go and look for him tomorrow morning so I will confirm he is alive and send pictures to the world,” Staplekamp said.
If they don't know if he's alive or not, how do they know the possible cause of death is shooting?

Some sites I've seen have said that it was probably a different lion that had been shot, rather than Jericho.

Your essentially sentencing someone to death or a very miserably life for the killing of the animal. How ever shitty it may be, I think ruining this guys life over it is outrageous.

Really people are more upset over this than when ISIS drowns people and films it.
