After being locked in a glass house for 6 days (144 hours) without food playing non-stop requests on Dutch national radio, the 3 DJs (Coen, Gerard & Timur) exited the glass house at 21.30 local dutch time. The project raised more than 8.6 million euros (and counting!) for mothers in war zones. The money will all go to the Red Cross whom will help mothers in war situations to give them a safe place for them and their family to live in, and provide them with basics like food, and clean drinking water. Other similar events were held in other countries: Economic crisis my ass Wikipedia Dutch source Last years edition's thread on FP
I could use some of that what Belgium raised money for.
what about fathers in warzones?
what about fathers in warzones?
They're usually fighting or dead.
They don't need help. If you're ever on a warzone and you see a woman with a machine gun in one hand and a baby in the other, you turn and run as fast as you can. That is one wrath you do not want to incur.
Not to sound xenophobist, idiot, ignorant, racist or anything like that, but it seems to be funny in a rather perverse way that people always find money to help other people than their own. For example every European country propably has some quantity of poor people living in poor conditions, why not improve their status? Then again, those mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers in warzones may have lost everything or parts of their family and homes. Then again, does that money/goods ever go to rightful person and objective or does it get stolen/forced/gifted to wrongdoers and hoarders. I'd LOVE to see results of these Charity projects, real proofs this actually HELPS people, not just some smiling chidlren pictures, Queen music and words.
"proceeds will be used to help kids with diarrhea"? is that a big problem in belgium or something?
You're welcome.
"proceeds will be used to help kids with diarrhea"? is that a big problem in belgium or something?
straight from wikipedia: Diarrhea (from the Greek διάρροια meaning "flowing through", also spelled diarrhoea, is the condition of having three or more loose or liquid bowel movements per day. It is a common cause of death in developing countries and the second most common cause of infant deaths worldwide. The loss of fluids through diarrhea can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. In 2009 diarrhea was estimated to have caused 1.1 million deaths in people aged 5 and over and 1.5 million deaths in children under the age of 5. Also we raised nearly as much as the netherlands whilst only having about one third of the population (about 6 million people in flanders). Suck it Netherlands :v:.
You're welcome.
I don't think that there are mothers affected by wars and other conflicts on Facepunch.

The documentary was about what was done with last years money, and how it is already improving the lives of people. Every year during one of these events one of the DJs travels to the subject area and talks with people who live there. A year later he goes back and talks to the same people and asks if the Red Cross has done something yet. In most cases they already have, in others a year is just not long enough to get a supply chain going. It really does help, I am convinced of this.
The money is going to the red cross, not any governments. I donated 20 euros myself, and bought one of their shirts.

(For those that don't get it, the Dutch think the Belgians are dumb, and the Belgians think we never spend any money.)
Maybe we should hold a facepunch pool next year via paypall or something. Would need someone trustworthy to hold it tough. I vote Garry since he alreaddy has my 10€ [editline]25th December 2011[/editline]
You know were not interested in spending loads of money. But that also might be cause by their inability to operate a wallet. :v:
