Barack Obama, D-Ill., addresses supporters in rain at a rally in Chester, Pa. Democrats are closely watching the forecasts as a rainy week unfolds ahead of Obama's speech accepting his party's nomination. With Obama set to address supporters in Charlotte's open-air football stadium on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 party officials insist the speech will go on even if it rains. After all, they said the stadium's main tenant, the Carolina.
In an interview broadcast tonight, CNNasked Obama adviser Robert Gibbs about the DNC platform dropping the word "God," which has been included in previous platforms. The question, which asked if it was a deliberate decision to drop the word, was somewhat dodged by Gibbs. He said the platform mentions "faith and religion" and cited the "thousands of God-fearing Democrats in this building here tonight." Since the platform was released, the lack of the word "God" has become a rallying cry among some conservatives, especially those who believe that the Obama administration is unfriendly to religion. The Republican platform, released last week, made at least a dozen references to God and included a section on religious liberty.
The AP reports: -------------------- Democrats have dropped from their platform recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a move that has opened President Barack Obama to criticism from Republican rival Mitt Romney.Four years ago Democrats stated unequivocally that "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel." Israelis and Palestinians both claim the city as their capital. Democratic spokeswoman Melanie Roussell defended the change. She says the Obama administration is taking the same Jerusalem policy as every Republican and Democratic administration since 1967, while seeking resolution in a two-state peace agreement. Romney called the change a "shameful refusal to acknowledge that Jerusalem is Israel's capital." He accused Obama of distancing the U.S. from its ally Israel. Not surprised one bit.
Holy shit. That's...unexpected. Remarkably progressive on a symbolic level. Hopefully, this is the start of something new.
just waiting for fox's response to this
Hopefully this doesn't bite them in the ass later on, I could see the Republican party spinning this a thousand different ways.
They already are
Sad that the dichotomy exists. God and no gays. Gays and no God. -.-' Mainly because the God group don't approve of the Gay group, yet there are Gay's for God and God's for Gays. ** Referring to my other post: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1210114
One more reason to vote for the democrats.
Oh boy, I don't like this.
Some people believe in god and some don't, a government for the people shouldn't say anything about it so this is good.
This isn't gonna turn out all to well is it?
I don't know if this was worth the inevitable conservative circle jerking and spinning
Does anyone else think its far too early for this kind of thing in America?
The people who dislike this were probably already voting Republican. And it's never too early to do the right thing.
Nobody noticed since every speech at the DNC had the word God in it several times. It is a good change but not as big a change as it seems to be.
Hope this won't cost many votes.
CHUCK NORRIS PREDICTED IT
the thousand years of darkness begin
how different the RNC was from the DNC, my my RNC: "OBAMA IS DESTROYING AMERICA *jeering and applause*" DNC: "only with the help of all of the United States, Democrats and Republicans alike, can we enact our change for a better society *cheers and applause*"
well great cant wait for that cop that does security at my cinema on the weekends to get on my shit about this
I remember when Obama mentioned non-believers in his inaugural speech. Good on 'em
Does anyone else think its far too early for this kind of thing in America?
There was never "god" in America until the 1950's where the added to the Pledge and motto because "WE HAVE TO BE THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF THE USSR."
Fucking godless commies
I think this is good on him. My family's generally Republican, and even my dad agreed with me that this was a needed separation of government and religion. Will be interested how it goes for Obama's campaign, I can't see it costing him too many votes. [editline]5th September 2012[/editline] That said, I don't see it gaining him any votes, but that's just my two cents.

It's a good thing for religion to no longer carry power; MOST of us are no longer so gullible to bend knee before an imaginary absentee father figure. If there was an actual deity of power that could truly affect the world directly, then it would make sense to stay on its good side if doing so brought us benefits (other than preventing its wrath; that's just an elaborate cosmic extortion racket). But there are no such things as gods; only in fiction do they exist, so we have no need to pay tribute to some abstract bearded creator concept. The last thing we need are red-robed Inquisitors seeking out alleged "heresies", nor do we require high priests who spread lies and propaganda, furthering their agendas and those of the guys whose payroll they're on.
This is going to serve as a rallying cry for the more radical elements of the GOP... but this is good progress. As fond as I am of big boss in the sky, I still believe that religion is no basis for government as it is impossible to guarantee that every citizen of said government will be on the same page. Maybe one of these days we can push it from the GOP as well. Okay yeah right but I can dream.
well great cant wait for that cop that does security at my cinema on the weekends to get on my shit about this
You should listen to him. This man is obviously living the American dream.
Great, now I get to hear my mother bitch about how Christianity will soon be made illegal if Obama is reelected.
Holy shit. That's...unexpected. Remarkably progressive on a symbolic level. Hopefully, this is the start of something new.
Yep, and kills any hope of a re-election, I think. Woo for amazingly assbackward america

God's an asshole anyway. We don't owe him anything.
