Back in 2009 a little game called Modern Warfare 2 disappointed pc gamers by removing everything that makes the PC version of the game superior to any of its console brethren. I am talking about dedicated servers. The act disabled any sort of real modding to the game along with the ability to make custom maps, build communities and not be forced into waiting for the develoepr to patch the multiplayer with extra content.
Good news everyone, Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated server support for PC players! This was revealed today at Gamescom by the associate manager for Call of Duty Digital, Jay Frechette, and reaffirmed by Sledgehammer boss Glen Schofield on Twitter.

It is good to see developers learning from their mistakes, the mapping community will not be silent if you cross them! *fist pumps and so on*
They're a bit late on this aren't they?
Breaking news mw3 to have graphics settings and keyboard mapping
Will it have to be ran by gameservers and will we get a real SDK?
Good. (At least for the people getting this.)
Not having dedicated servers in MW2 was pretty stupid.
Yeah I heard that they're talking about this on all the big news stations...
Well this is good news, now I can find servers that don't use the DLC maps.
Also ain't this kinda admitting IWNet on the PC was a failure?
And not a single fuck was given
Cool I guess, now we need mods too.
Some sites are reporting that the dedicated servers will be free, which sounds like you can download the dedicated server binaries yourself without having to "rent" one from a company whose servers can not handle a full server.
If that is true, hopefully DICE will follow suit with Battlefield 3. It sure makes DICE look bad, since they were the ones who proudly proclaimed that Bad Company 2 would feature "dedicated servers" unlike that lame Black Ops, but the two games ended up having pretty much the same dedicated server system after Activision added dedicated server support back in. (more like rent-a-server for an arm-and-a-leg)
dedicated servers for the 10 people who bought modern warfare 3
the rest of us (the master race) will be playing Battlefield 3.

Actually BFBC2 was a competitor against MW2, not Black Ops. IW Announced that it'd have no-dedicated servers first, then DICE followed with an announcement that they would.
well this was the whole reason the internet started hating call of duty in the first place

I thought it was the fact that the series is getting milked to shit.

no-one gave a shit about that back in like 2009
as soon as it had dedicated servers removed the supposed "boycott" started and they racked up a shitload of hate towards activision with kotick at the center.
modern warfare 1 was quite loved among many pc gamers

"is getting"?
it already has been, its not fun anymore.
it died after 4, and its been Cut and Paste ever since
a few gun reskins, one new weapon, some unbalanced weapon tiers and perks, and some maps they cut from the game and release at 15 dollar intervals every 3 months for a year
GEE I SURE LOVE PAYING $120 FOR CALL OF DUTY!

Might want to jump down from that enormous pedestal you've put yourself on.

You forgot about Call of Duty: Elite!

I'm no Call of Duty fan, but you're making ridiculous exaggerations.
-WaW, I thought was pretty good.
-You do realize they have to make the campaign and MP maps that come with the disc, right?
-Map packs come at an outrageous price, I won't argue that.
-But $120? What world do you live in where a CoD game costs that much? Even with map packs, it ends up being at maximum $90.
Wait wait wait!!

That's an optional service and it gets you all the map packs in addition to the services.
-But $120? What world do you live in where a CoD game costs that much? Even with map packs, it ends up being at maximum $90.
Well he is kinda right
CoD MW2 at launch was $60(now $30) and had 2 $15 map packs for a grand total of $90 while Black ops is still at $60 with 3 $15 map packs with a 4th pack on the way bringing the grand total to $120.

That does sound pretty outrageous, but I wonder how many maps that is total.

about 12 i think
about 12 i think
I could've sworn they always came with 3 MP maps and 2 zombie maps.
So basically you're paying for the game and then you're paying the same amount again to play multiplayer without getting kicked every other game for "REQUIRED CONTENT NOT OWNED."
Oh, well I guess I'll have to get it now...
Game doesn't have dedicated servers: "OH MY GOD WHAT A STUPID COMPANY NOT HAVING DEDICATED SERVERS WOW."
Game has dedicated servers: "HAHAHA THIS GAME WILL STILL BLOW NO MATTER WHAT NEW CRAP THEY MASH IN THERE."
there's no pleasing you.

Or if you wait 'till it goes down in price a bit it's a good bit less.
That does sound pretty outrageous, but I wonder how many maps that is total.
MW2's are 5 maps each for a total of 10 extra maps for $30. On the other hand Blops has 4 normal maps for the first 3 packs and 1 zombie map each while the 4th pack has 5 zombie maps 3 of which were in the other 3 DLCs. So thats 12 maps and 5 zombie maps (17 total) for $60, the same price that the game goes for on steam.
It's fucking outrageous.

Yeah, that is pretty exorbitant. Other than this though, I don't really have any qualms with Call of Duty, it's fun for what it's worth.
