A group of Long Island students will soon be wearing controversial electronic monitors that allow school officials to track their physical activity around the clock. The athletics chair for the Bay Shore schools ordered 10 Polar Active monitors, at $90 a pop, for use starting this spring. The wristwatchlike devices count heartbeats, detect motion and even track students’ sleeping habits in a bid to combat obesity.[/release] http://nation.foxnews.com/ny-schools/2012/01/15/ny-schools-spy-fat-kids
this is the fox nation's way of saying "optional odometers" right if it's mandatory toss me in with the fox commenters though because I agree with them
Appropriate for once.
I need a set of these "The nation says" Images. I would love to have these as stickers or just to post on any thread.
Isn't this a massive invasion of privacy? I'm not gonna say obesity is a good thing, but son of a bitch. There are better ways to get people in shape.
There's no way they could allow this, that's a huge invasion of privacy only a moron could think this is right
There's no way they could allow this, that's a huge invasion of privacy only a moron could think this is right
And that's why the school system is doing it.
What's the point of the motion detector function? If it's supposed to be an estimate on how active the wearer is then you can cheat it by moving just that one arm a lot, and if you have trouble keeping track of the fat kids then god help you with the skinny ones.

This is legal how?
god if they give this big of a fucking shit about obesity then lower your god damn food prices and stop coming up with these retardic ideas
You can't force anyone to wear one of those. Unless it locks around your wrist and sets an alarm when tampered with, I don't see why you can't say "Fuck this" and not wear it.
Hm should we stop feeding out fat children KFC and mcdonalds? nah lets complain to the schools
New York has officially become #1 on my "Never Visit" list, toppling California.
Invasion of privacy yes, but if parents agree to it then the child can't really say anything Minors have significantly less rights. ESPECIALLY when it comes to privacy.
New York has officially become #1 on my "Never Visit" list, toppling California.
why's california up there? it's an okay state, just LA is a shithole
New York has officially become #1 on my "Never Visit" list, toppling California.
but NY suburbs are fine...
Why do they need to spy on them? They're fatasses because they stuff their faces and don't do any physical activities.
Here in B.C You can't graduate without an average of 150 minuets a week of physical activity. But they use the honour system, and they count Wii fit as a activity.:v:
Why do they need to spy on them? People need physical exercise the most. People like to think what they eat is what matters the most when it doesn't.
I became obese and was forced to do this, I would exercise and then eat 5x as much [editline]16th January 2012[/editline]
Here in B.C You can't graduate without an average of 150 minuets a week of physical activity. I think that they'd shit themselves if they gave me one of those. My heart rate is incredibly low. Regardless, this is absurd.
New York has officially become #1 on my "Never Visit" list, toppling California.
you just hate fun really, don't you?
Because the fat inside them might really be a bunch of C4 ready to blow in the name of Allah?
You can't force anyone to wear one of those. Also, Fox News source, and it has virtually no information whatsoever.
you just hate fun really, don't you?
I pee on swings and pop soccer balls
If they're to dumb to not do PE then they're probably to dumb to wear these things.
This is legal how?
Voluntary.
If they're to dumb to not do PE then they're probably to dumb to wear these things.
And too dumb to use too correctly.
"So I attached it to the cat and bought a water gun"
So it's an odometer (Measuring the number of steps you take isn't a massive invasion of privacy), it's optional, and people are terrified of it.
