Witnesses say the spill happened when a car leaving the gas station collided with a tanker truck carrying the gasoline.

Basically a large gas tanker jammed a small sedan against a curb while turning, which caused the tanker to start leaking gasoline. It all got into a nearby sewer, and soon enough spread throughout most of the surrounding area. They had our school on lockdown and didn't allow anyone to go outside at all, so we ended up spending the last 2 hours in school in the same class.
I'm surprised at how many cops were there. They had the entire area around my school locked down, and no one was allowed to pass through the street, even though it was ~ a mile away from the spill.
I hope they are sucessfull in preventing the gasoline from entering the creek, mainly because the creek is literally 15 feet away from our backyard, and I do not want to be inhaling gasoline fumes for the rest of the day.

I'm surprised that no one's gone and lit up the sewers somewhere. Surely some punk with a lighter is just dying to do it... that is assuming the concentration is high enough to allow it to burn and spread. Imagine all the sewers in your city burning and spewing flames and smoke out of the gutters. That'd be cuhrazee.

Sort of, but there weren't just cops, there were firefighters there and Hazmat teams so it was more like oh shit oh shit.
