China's ruling Communist Party aims to silence the voice of the Dalai Lama in his Tibetan homeland by tightening controls on media and the Internet, a top official said on Saturday. The party's top-ranking official in the Tibet region Chen Quanguo vowed to "ensure that the voices of hostile forces and the Dalai group are not seen or heard," in an editorial published in a party journal called Qiushi. Officials would "make sure that the voice of the party is heard and seen everywhere in this vast 120 million square kilometre region," Chen wrote in the editorial.
http://www.france24.com/en/20131102-china-vows-silence-dalai-lama-tibet
thats not very nice tbh
That's.. ominous as fuck.
This is beyond fucked up.
china being china, as usual.
Let's not forgot that China still doesn't accept Tibet as its own country. They refer to it as "Chinese Tapai".
Let's not forgot that China still doesn't accept Tibet as its own country. They refer to it as "Chinese Tapai".
You mean they don't accept Taiwan as a country and that when participating in sports it is being called Chinese Taipei.
"Hostile Voices." Are you fucking with me? Jesus Christ, how are you a world super power
Did they have to use the word 'silence'? Like, maybe it's a lost-in-translation thing, or maybe it's sensationalism, but normally that word is a euphemism for 'quietly murder'.
Don't worry guys, "the voice of the party will be heard and seen everywhere."
"Hostile Voices." Are you fucking with me? Jesus Christ, how are you a world super power
well for one, they marched into tibet, a pacifist country, and occupied it under the premis that they were protecting it from forign interests and have stayed there for 60 years. if the people there believed in something similar to jihad they'd be really fucked by now, but thankfully the people of tibet don't partake in that type of warfare. Silencing the dali lama will not help this in one bit though, at least he preaches a message of peace and peaceful protest, imagine what other religous sects could do if the people stopped being able to listen to the dali and switched to other faiths or listened to others.

Jesus Christ, how are you a world super power
If there ever is another World War, and by the gods I hope there never is, it'd probably be against China. And it'd be crushing for all sides even without nuclear weapons OR kinetic bombardment, what with all that undeserved influence.
I don't think China has any Imperialistic aspirations.
And pray to whatever nightmares dance in the void they don't acquire any. Though Imperial China was once a thing in days gone by, maybe you're right; hopefully the days of empires have long faded into the realms of fantasy and historical fiction.
It's strange knowing that sometime during my life I will witness the collapse of China.
It's strange knowing that sometime during my life I will witness the collapse of China.
No. But North Korea? Sure.
Or China overtaking the west it's a 50-50
most economists with a brain point out that is HIGHLY unlikely to say the least that will happen, until china actually fix its internal problems, rather than put duct tape on them or sweep them under the carpet, they're headed for an inevitable crisis around 2025-2040, you can only delay solving your problems for so long. china won't take over the west, it won't even take over its local area, EVERYONE in asia hates or at least dislikes china(unless you're NK), and are vastly more friendly to the US, because china is constantly bullying other nations due to exclusive economic zone issues(china keeps wanting waaay more than its allowed). thats not to say china isn't going to become more powerful, but still, they're nowhere near the "global threat" people make them to be.

They own and manufacture so much throughout the world that it would be a disaster for the rest of us if they collapsed or had a large scale economic crisis.

Great, china is acting like WoW Mogu's, go figure... Ancient China is way more glorious then this China.
"Hostile Voices." Are you fucking with me? Jesus Christ, how are you a world super power
Is China considered a superpower yet? Genuine question.
Is China considered a superpower yet? Genuine question.
No, the US is the only superpower. Read this if you want to know more about the up and coming potential superpowers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potential_superpowers I think we'll probably see China becoming a superpower but probably not for a long time.
To be fair, he ain't exactly the most truthful; the US basically gave him a small military for when he really needs it.
China is seriously making themselves look like a big joke.
I don't think China has any Imperialistic aspirations.
You're thinking wrong my friend. In fact, it's a fact that China has imperialistic ambitions, if not, tell me what have they been doing in Africa the last few years?....There's a reason why they are expanding within and sealing deals with African countries.. It's a game of power between the states for domination. Hopefully, one day we will all become Switzerland and stop that bullshit.

The next generation of war will not be fought for parcels of land, but for what lies in them.
No. But North Korea? Sure.
North Korea does a damn fine job keeping itself alive considering just about everyone is barred from doing business with them (China is allowed to beat its citizens to with an inch of their lives if they refuse to obey but oh, not North Korea because they have a nuke!). China currently only exists to produce shit for everyone else. They have grown to be a major manufacturer over the last half a century and now everybody has a slice of their pie. A major uprising or political revolt could stall that economic engine and if that happened the entire country could implode, dragging the rest of the world with it.
