• Britain in Turmoil: Greggs stop selling bread
The decision has been revealed in a series of exchanges with customer Andrew Denny, who said: "Tried to buy a loaf of bread yesterday. To my astonishment the local Gregg's said they didn't sell it any more." The company responded: "Sorry Andrew. If products aren't selling well, we take them off to allow for other products to be sold." After Denny said this made Greggs more like a "snack bar" than a baker, it added that "we do still sell bread in some of our shops :-)". The company says it's now focusing on "food-on-the-go products, including sandwiches", which are "freshly prepared in store every day and made using our own bread". "While loaves of bread can still be purchased in a number of our shops where we see high levels of customer demand," a spokeswoman adds, "we also understand that customer shopping habits and needs are changing and have adapted accordingly." Greggs also sells pasties, sausage rolls, salads and pizza slices, among other things. Yet sandwiches dominate front-of-shop displays. "We continue to eat a lot of bread, but often we hardly notice it," says Webb. "The decision by Greggs is another step towards this."
Who even buys bread at a pasty shop?
life = worthless
i didnt know they sold bread
i didnt know they sold bread
It'd be a bit fucked if a bakery chain didn't sell bread So what the hell Greggs?
greggs can suck my dick cooplands for life
This is what you voted for people!
Let them eat cake.
I guess that sucks, but doesn't really hurt our village since we have our own bakery. (I don't think we even had a Greggs to begin with, either)
I actually buy bread from Greggs.
At least Lidl bakes and sells bread. [T]http://angelikasgerman.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/2013-10-04-12.48.19.jpg[/T] I was expecting it to taste like shit, but it's actually surprisingly good :v:
This is all David Camerons fault
It'd be a bit fucked if a bakery chain didn't sell bread So what the hell Greggs?
Greggs is for pastries and nothing else.
Makes sense. Most people buy their bread during the weekly shop, Gregg's is almost purely for when you're feeling gluttonous.
Never seen Greggs make bread. We have THREE of them in our tiny town centre, and all they serve is cakes and sausage rolls. They're pretty much a pastry/confectionary group. Sure, they look like a bakery, but they sell hardly anything a proper bakery does.
The company says it's now focusing on "food-on-the-go products
It's biggest seller is the sausage roll for gods sake it's all food on the go.

All is lost.
Yeah stotties are still being sold, in the North East ones at least.
That's fine, it means I can stop for one on every single street corner in Newcastle when I'm home.
As someone from the deep westcountry what is a greggs
This is all David Camerons fault
Thanks Cameron!
when i was in london everyone seemed to be eating toast instead of normal bread
That's fine, it means I can stop for one on every single street corner in Newcastle when I'm home.
And even after a night out, you can visit a greggs guarded by a bouncer and a thin plastic barrier to statisfy your urge for warmed up pastry.
I have literally never seen anyone buy bread from a greggs
Well they do call themselves bakers
Same thing as when I call myself a handsome devil in the mirror every morning.
I only ever go to Greggs to get Tottenham cakes and donuts. But not once have I ever noticed them selling bread.
Who even buys bread at a pasty shop?
Theres a Korean bakery ~30mi away from where I live (US). They have the best fucking bread. I had a loaf of it, pre-sliced sitting in my car. I drove down to richmond (~150mi away) to drop my girlfriend off at school. On the way back, I was starving, and I ate the entire goddamned loaf of bread. Best bread ever 10/10 would eat again
