A 13-year-old autistic boy was left traumatised after seeing the shower murder scene from the film Psycho at his school, says his mother. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-22261441
And the world keeps spinning.
I think this is worth pointing out:
Mrs Bourne has accepted an apology from the teacher.
Also:
Mrs Bourne emailed the school, saying: "I cannot for the life of me understand why this has been shown. "The film carries a certification of 15 years. Dougie is 13. "This is the most violent and vicious scene in the entire film and is not a suitable scene to be shown to children in school." .. She added: "I'm happy to accept the teacher's apology and delighted that he said he would change his teaching plan and not use the film again. "But, basically it's a certificate-15 film being shown to 13-year-olds and you should use your loaf and get consent before showing it."
In 10th grade, my class watched Shaun of the Dead
Mrs Bourne said: "Dougie came flying through the door after school on Monday saying, 'I had to watch the bloody shower scene from Psycho in music, today'."
Kinda sad just how much he will never live this down.
Survival of the fittest.
autistic boy traumatised by good camera work and chocolate syrup, more at 11
Are we going to make a news article every time somebody gets shocked, or just when they have autism it makes it newsworthy?
Survival of the fittest.
nazi
Glad to see the Mom didn't make too much of a big deal out of it.
We did Psycho for our English media project when I was 13. Surprisingly enough, none of our class were traumatised by it. In fact, I think a lot of us (myself included) got into Hitchcock films as a result.
Glad to see the Mom didn't make too much of a big deal out of it.
Apart from accepting the apology and then going straight to the media
Don't you have to get permission from the parents for stuff that kids are too young to watch?
Kinda sad, because the school will pretty certainly not show films in class again because "that once time a boy got traumatized"
Is everyone ignoring the autistic part? I'm pretty sure that this isn't "hurr durr austism", this is someone who was upset by something that you guys find ridiculous to be upset by because of said condition. If he wasn't autistic, then your arguments would be fine and this'd be an example of someone overly-sensitive or overly-sheltered, but mocking him over this is kind of dickish.

This is the most calm handling of a case I've read about (which leads me to believe it isn't news worthy, as apparently only shitstorms usually are)
The school showed a violent, 15-rated movie to kids who weren't old enough to watch it. The teacher has apologized, but in the future they should consider the situation more carefully.
Brain disordered people can get traumas from silliest stuff but make no mistake, it is HELL to live with. Take OCD people, they might outright refuse doing some things in fear of having to repeat certain movements or rituals they so try to fight against.
Survival of the fittest.
Modern scientists believe that the Dodo (scientific name Raphus Cucullatus), a flightless bird from the island of Mauritius, went extinct when the last of them all went to see Hitchcock's movie "Psycho". When the famous shower scene occurred, the Dodos all shat on the seats and ran out of the theater, never to be seen again. "It was absolutely terrible", said a theater janitor, "have you ever seen Dodo shit? It took a whole week to scrub that shit out of the seats." Ornithologist Stacy Bergman explained, "We don't know why they were so scared of that scene, the seagulls and crows were all fine with the movie. The only other birds that had a problem with the movie were the flock of mockingbirds, who were snickering and talking the entire movie. God, mockingbirds are dicks." Hitchcock has said that he made the movie "The Birds" out of guilt for driving the Dodo to extinction. That film has a 90% average rating among bird critics and a 98% rating on bird movie review site RottenEggs.com.

Oh and its local news, I assume nothing else was going on in that area.
one of my teachers showed my class softcore porn in sex education once edit: wow 100th post
was expecting over the top reactions, got a very reasonably handled situation instead
one of my teachers showed my class softcore porn in sex education once
That's kind of silly. Porn generally depicts sex in a very unrealistic manner.
really don't get what is so "funny" about this
Survival of the fittest.
I almost hope you get hit by a speeding truck or catch cancer or something, completely at random. I wonder if you would keep that spirit, lying on the hospital bed.
one of my teachers showed my class softcore porn in sex education once
Be glad that you didn't have to watch an interpretative dance on sex that suddenly cut to a real birth scene with all the details.

"Dougie is quite sensitive to noises, so even if his teachers had just played the soundtrack it might have distressed him," Mrs Bourne said.
:(
If he gets distressed by noises why is he enrolled in a music class in the first place?
While the whole thing does seem to be handled very well and not in a over the top manner, I am just wondering why is it in the news then? Was it really that much of a slow news day or did someone call them up?
Throughout high school my form tutor was normally a media studies teacher, his class was the only one with top of the range macs, projector, surround speakers and shit. Once a month we'd have a day where we're in our form tutor groups to do stuff about British law, ethics etc He'd rush us all through the work so we could spend the rest of the day watching films. He showed us loads of good stuff, Pulp Fiction, Terminator 2, Matrix, They Live and other stuff. He'd normally somehow tie the film in with what we were doing
