Is there any labor protection law on protecting someone from being fired like this in the UK? Or is it that schools are basically dictatorships where they abide to different rules much like in the US.

No, I get the feeling this is just because teachers are not allowed to have anything even resembling a sexual life that might have ever been available publicly for no good reason.
