Davis, 13, has worn a brightly colored Vera Bradley purse (guys, ask your wives) to his Kansas middle school every day since August but, for some reason, it's become an issue for administrators. "I don't think everyone should be treated differently," he told KCTV5. "Everyone should have the same privileges."
Sort of infuriating but I can see the school's point. It's not a distraction for a girl to carry a purse, but it is for a boy. It's distracting because people will point at laugh at him, causing disruption. I do not agree with the school but I see the angle they're coming at. Plus it's Kansas. What to expect? How unfashionable of them.
the fact that the school chose to take the path of least resistance and suspend him instead of going after the kids who would attack him is disgusting.
I hope he comes to school with bright purple shoes, or something, next. I would've said pink, but I don't want him to get shit-kicked into next month. Just to tweak the nose of the administrators.
I find it ridiculous that he was suspended and I'm not a salve to fashion, but his purse dose not match his outfit at all.
In the school's defense, the boy had very poor taste in man-purses.
Well if the school dress code has rules against items of clothing that cause disruption...then...well.
On a guy it just looks like a colorful messenger bag. Not saying that it looks good, though...
the fact that the school chose to take the path of least resistance and suspend him instead of going after the kids who would attack him is disgusting.
Zero-Tolerance!
Well if the school dress code has rules against items of clothing that cause disruption...then...well.
Yeah but it is a broad definition, I could be an asshole one day as say the regular t-shirt someone wears is disruption. If this kid has been going to school with it for months without incident and now suddenly gets in trouble. Something else is at work, i think the person that approached him is discriminating against him.
"disruptive" is the catch-all excuse for any punishment from a school
ugh thank god that purse was ATROCIOUS it clashed with the rest of his outfit i mean suspension is easy, he should have been executed for such a fashion faux pas

The boy broke one of the school's (rather dumb) rules that all bags/purses/etc must be kept in the locker and not taken to class, be you male or female. He's making a stand against it and people are siding with him. http://www.kctv5.com/story/23899790/boy-13-suspended-for-carrying-vera-bradley-purse
Somebody should make a compilation of stupid school rules and post them up on the internet for people to laugh at. This one rule should figure prominently, along with the 'no touching' rule from that one school in the news last week.
He's got a lil sumthin hanging to the right of his britches..
"There's a kid being picked on by other students? Suspend him so he can stop distracting everyone."
ugh thank god that purse was ATROCIOUS it clashed with the rest of his outfit i mean suspension is easy, he should have been executed for such a fashion faux pas
To loosely quote Jon Stewart, forget a police state, we need a fashion police state!
Suspended for bad taste in man purses [editline]9th November 2013[/editline] Next offence we will call the fashion police
Reminds me of that episode of Malcolm in the Middle.
So I assume the school faculty are unavailable for comment.
So I assume the school faculty are unavailable for comment.
Like usual, You'd they would grow balls and actually administrate their school. Reminds me when I got suspended for self-defense. Back in middle school kid came up-to me and class and just felt like starting a fight with me. I threw one punch in self-defense and ended up with a four day weekend.
It's a pretty snazzy looking bag
Just one more reason for me to show up in all-bright pink clothing one day to resist school's urges to do dumb shit.
my school has the same rule teachers don't want people bringing anything but their books to class I see no problem with it
That's dumb, Go to your locker every period to change your books or can carry a few to save time. My Middle School I could have a class on the 1st floor then next period have it on the 3rd floor meaning I don't have time to get to my locker and change books etc. I carried what I needed till the point I could change books over. High School we didn't do any work or use textbooks so easy life
my school has the same rule teachers don't want people bringing anything but their books to class I see no problem with it
stupid rule. people should be allowed to bring their bags and purses into class. it doesn't matter what the hell they put in their bags unless it's a gun or drugs. like, what if somebody wants to have a water bottle in their bag? what if they want a jacket or coat in their bag in case it gets cold? what if somebody's on their period and needs to carry tampons on them? what if they want to have money on them, but don't have secure pockets on their person? what if they have an inhaler for medicine? there's a billion reasons why kids need their bags and shit in class, practically no valid reasons why they shouldn't. also there's the fact that it's a fucking pain in the ass to go to your locker every goddamn period, especially if your locker's on the other side of school. that's why i haven't used mine since freshman year.
If this purse has ponies on it you guys would call him a fag and say that he should act like a real man so stop pretending that you care about stuff like this
If this purse has ponies on it you guys would call him a fag and say that he should act like a real man so stop pretending that you care about stuff like this
The design of the purse doesn't matter at all, it's still the same story. The boy got suspended for wearing a purse, and why would most of us call him a fag? Most of us on this website are LGBT. In my opinion I think, while he's 13, its good for him to be expressing himself. Unlike others his age, he seems to have a nice personality. The boy just wants to wear a purse to school. I think the school should've let him, hell the school year is very close to being over, with just a few months left.
If this purse has ponies on it you guys would call him a fag and say that he should act like a real man so stop pretending that you care about stuff like this
In my defense, (because you're being a generalizing dimwit), I wouldn't give a flying fuck if the dude had ponies, sunshines, rainbows, and what the fuck else on his bag. I have much more to worry about than some kid with a purse.
If this purse has ponies on it you guys would call him a fag and say that he should act like a real man so stop pretending that you care about stuff like this
I don't think the design of the purse matters that much.
