After a disappointing finish in Tuesday's Iowa caucuses, Rick Perry is suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
Speaking to supporters in Iowa, the Texas governor said he would return home tonight rather than head to South Carolina, as he had planned.
"With the voters' decision tonight in Iowa, I've decided to return to Texas, assess the results of tonight's caucus, [and] determine whether there is a path forward for myself in this race," he said.

Though he stopped short of a final declaration, it was clear in his tone that Perry was eyeing an end to his campaign. Earlier in his remarks, he choked up as he read a letter from a volunteer, and called running for the presidency "the most incredible experience" of his life.
"This campaign has never been about me. It's about a movement of Americans who see our country -- that it's not on the track that most of us want it to be on," he said.
With most of the votes counted Perry appeared headed to a fifth-place finish, with just over 10% of the vote. The first nominating contest of the presidential race is likely to end in a virtual tie between Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney.
When Perry entered the race in late August, he did so as an immediate front-runner. His ability to raise big money, and his reputation as the longest-serving governor in Texas, made him a formidable challenger — at least on paper. But his performance failed to live up to that promise.
Unlike past elections, when in-person campaigning in the early states often helped voters sort through the field of candidates, a series of much-watched TV debates filled that role this time. The highly publicized encounters helped deflate Perry's prospects, after a series of faltering performances under the television lights.

neat, i guess the elections aren't looking so bad after all
what with perry and bachman out of the picture and all
Good, hopefully a worthy candidate will rise to challenge Obama, be the person Republican or independent. Get rid of the crazy ones already.
im not surprised nobody wants a homophobe as a president
One by one, the morons drop out...
Perry, Bachmann, Cain... Palin counts, too, even though she never was really in it in the first place. The fact that she acted so much that she was going to run, only to say "nope nvm" totally counts.
Maybe like half a count at the least.
Still though.
This is a great thing we've got going here; the Republican candidates are dropping like flies left and right. Hopefully there'll be little in the way of those capitalist swine to oppose the Democrats from keeping the keys to the kingdom, even if Obama doesn't get re-elected.

Here is the GOP's ticket to the white house :downs:
No, unfortunately, he hasn't.

Every time a GOP candidate drops out, it gets more likely that Romney will rise up and beat Obama. I'd rather have all of them stay in and fight to the death, destroying each others reputations without Obama lifting a single finger or running a single negative ad.

I was thinking that since they dropped out so early there will be more of their votes going towards Romeny,
shits bad man
if romney looks like he's winning
drop everything and vote ron paul 2012
im not surprised nobody wants a homophobe as a president
Most of the other republican candidates are homophobes as well.
now we'll never be able to pray in class
He already said he's back in and going to South Carolina or whatever is next
kickin ra
oh hes back
fuck
False alarm. He decided to stay in. http://www.kansascity.com/2012/01/04/3352804/texas-gov-rick-perry-decides-to.html
I know someone posted it but it was ignored so posting again so others understand.
I really don't think he'll have such a Strong comeback.
its not even relevant, he pretty much shot himself in the foot with that ridiculous ad.
and it's not like romney, santorum, gingrich, and bachmann are any different from him.

It's a fundamental problem with the party, not the candidates. If it was just Romney and Paul I bet a huge portion of GOP primary voters would pick Paul over Romney just because he is a Mormon, the only reason there are "crazy ones" is because that is what they want.
Why would they pick Paul? A few of his policies go against the pillars of creation of the GOP.

And then Paul would be elected, and we'd all be doomed to a nightmare Objectivist police state where we would all shrug under the burden of our fascist corporate overlords.
watch as Santorum gets assassinated and Cain dies from sudden pizza induced heart attack.
"This campaign has never been about me. It's about a movement of Americans who see our country -- that it's not on the track that most of us want it to be on,"
yeah and it's a good thing it's not on the track YOU want, considering how big of an insane Christian you are who actually believes national prayer is going to fix the world's issues.
But...Who will fix the wrongs in America? Kids can't celebrate Christmas, Gays are waving rainbow flags in the Military! God help us!
Why would they pick Paul? A few of his policies go against the pillars of creation of the GOP.
No I mean this in a hypothetical way if the choice was just between those two, my point is I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of primary voters would overlook actual disagreements in policy just because minor differences in their religion.

Also Trump.

The irony is that he probably would've tried getting everyone to pray the bad economy away.

When the gays run while in combat the American flag that should look like its advancing will be a rainbow that looks like its curved! This isn't straight in the head man!
