• Xp to Windows 7: Much of a performance hit?

I'm currently running an Acer Aspire 5315:
Intel Celeron (Single Core) 2.0 Ghz | 1mb Cache 1Gb DDR2 533Mhz 80Gb HDD 252mb (shared) Intel GMA X3100
Duel booting XP and Ubuntu 9.10. I'm wondering what sort of performance hit I would get if I removed XP and put 7 in it's place, currently I don't get the best of performance in XP or Ubuntu but 've read that 7 runs with very similar performance to XP.XP v windows 7 I want to get 7, but there is no point in upgrading if it's going to be running really slowly.
Dual boot and see would be the most definite answer. Or you could assume no, they'll perform about the same.
I have a duel boot on my netbook and windows 7 runs smooth

With that 1GB of RAM, I'm not so sure if it'd perform stupendously or just well. Can't hurt to try a dual boot.

Well, that's one of the problems, I only have about 5gb free space on my hdd. To dual boot I would have to format the XP partition first, install 7, and if it runs too slowly I would then have to remove 7 and reinstall XP. Would it be worth trying virtualbox (or something similar) to see what performance is like?
is it Gentlemanly Battle Time?
I do believe so my good chap.

Everything other than Left4Dead has run faster for me. That's talking about general OS tasks, not just games. Left4Dead seems a bit slower than I'd have liked from my upgrade but I don't regret it. Just realised you didn't mention games but I'll keep that info in my post anyway. Personally I've found 7 faster than XP on my system for pretty much everything.

I don't plan to game really other than older pc games, Half Life 1 at a stretch.
