Francesco's Pizzeria says it successfully used a remote-controlled four-rotored drone to send an order to a skyscraper about 1.5km (1 mile) away, the Economic Times reports. In a city that's famous for its snarling traffic jams, the restaurant says drone deliveries could be a green solution that saves on time too. A video the pizzeria put together seems to show footage from one of the test flights. But the city police now say they're checking whether the restaurant asked permission from the civil aviation authorities. "As per norms, permission must be taken for flying any such object," an air traffic control official says. A local police chief told the told the PTI news agency: "We are very sensitive towards anything that flies in the sky with the help of remote control."
They're just worried about potential terror applications, bless them, it isn't like they can do much about it even if it gets turned to that side of things, though.

Well I'd say it went well because they even stopped playing cricket to watch it
It doesn't even have a container to keep the pizza warm. Worst drone pizza delivery service ever.
Is that the definition of a drone? Also the weather has to be absolutely flawless
It doesn't even have a container to keep the pizza warm. Worst drone pizza delivery service ever.
Just put it in one of those insulated bags they normally use next time, I think doing it without was a thing for the video.
Was that MLK's "I have a dream" speech faintly in the background at the beginning?
Fourth rule of robotics: Over 30 minutes and it's free.
I'll take a drone that deliver Indian food over Italian food any day Dammit I'm craving for some naan and butter chicken
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
pizza drone hijackings?
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
it'll be like Animal Crossing. Except not furniture, but pizza.
Is that the definition of a drone?
where are the Hellfire missiles
where are the Hellfire missiles
Hah, if more companies start delivering Pizza's like this, do you think they will have a Hellfire special. I like mine extra hot.
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
So just use armored drones.
It's fucked how many terrorist attacks happen in bombay, and the even larger number of near-misses. They do have good reason to be concerned
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
It's okay I have a solution. Rig the pizzas to explode if they don't get to their intended destination.
this works wonders in high density cities with slow moving car lanes. are they remotely controlled or automated?
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
Yeah this has always been a problem. When the first pizza delivery services began, people used to shoot at the pizza delivery boys from their windows to collect free pizzas.

There's a legendary funny story about that market in Mumbai - in the nineties, when imported cars were a sign of big wealth, some guy buys a Volvo. Now, one day, one of his hubcaps goes missing and he decides, after searching high and low, to check out the chor bazaar to find a suitable replacement for it. So he drives down there, he checks out a shop selling such imported car parts and finds a guy who, after some searching at his other depot, has the exact hubcap he was looking for. They haggle a bit, the guy finally buys the hubcap. He then walks back to his car and discovers that his other three hubcaps, the front and back logos were nicked. He bought back his own nicked hubcap. :v:
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
Yes, because its easy to hit a relatively small thing flying at around 14M/S at an altitude of 100' Its also fairly tough to bring one down, the one I have can keep flying with a dead motor, you can pull on the landing legs while its hovering and it barely moves. The props spin fast enough to cut off your hand if your not careful (14K RPM for mine), and its easy to fly. Sure when you fly into a tree, things will break but if it gets a rock thrown at it, as long as it doesn't 2 or more props (not an easy thing to do) you'll be fine, hell, the props would probably throw the rock off to the side, even the plastic props are tough.
Drone Pilot would look really good on a Job Application.
I don't think flying a pizza 100m up in the air without heat isolation is the most effective way to keep it warm
dude it's india, it's basically an oven.
dude it's india, it's basically an oven.
Well, in Mumbai, it's also humid as fuck being on a sea coast - I live on the sea front and I swear to god, I want to get an A/C installed in the bathroom because going in there is like a fucking sauna in the summer. The biggest problem I see with this idea is a fundamental misunderstanding of two things - population density and exactly how much overhanging crap we have here in the cities. If one of these things fell from the sky, it would almost definitely hit someone, that is a certainty. As for the second reason, there's this: This is an image that would describe a lot of streets in India, especially urban india. A lot of building society's have, as per mandate from the Muncipality regulations, ket the doors to the terrace under strict lock and key (mine happened for a different reason - someone did the nasty up there and left their used condoms lying around, and since ours is a "family friendly" building, it was kept locked since then :v:). Anyway, there are a number of reasons, despite the obvious possible terrorist applications, that keep this from becoming a reality in Indian cities for the foreseeable future. That and the fact that, someone, somewhere, In India will have figured out a way to take them down like a high tech pinata.
Images like that destroy what little faith in humanity I have left, sadly. But drone-delivery is a really good premise. If the technology, legal whatnot and application of them can be sorted out, then it'll be an excellent step forward on many customer-supplier relations. You'll have vastly reduced road traffic when the majority of small-handled goods can be done by a little nifty helicopter-drone rather than a single mother driving in a 7-seater four-wheel drive. But yeah, people will be people, sadly. Someone will argue its a terrorist threat. Someone will shoot a drone down with whatever they can get their hands on. Some religious person will claim its an affront against their god(s). Some drone pilot will accidentally crash it into power lines and black-out an entire suburb.
Huey: Snake! That Drone isn't hostile, but seems to carry rations. Snake: Got it, commence operation: Special Delivery
The idea sounds flawed because people will shoot the drone, with a slingshot or bb gun, to receive free pizza.
the idea of selling pizza is flawed because people will rob the pizzaria with a gun to receive free pizza
the idea of selling pizza is flawed because people will rob the pizzaria with a gun to receive free pizza
Can a different argument be used because yes, if someone is desperate and poor enough they WILL drop a pizza drone from the sky because that's totally different than straight up mugging a delivery boy or robbing a store.
