An armed robber died when he was confronted by a have-a-go hero during a bungled raid on a bookmakers, an inquest heard.
Career criminal Alan Levers, 50, was wearing a black gas mask and carrying an imitation handgun when he was wrestled to the ground by a brave customer.
The man, known only as Robert, told an inquest he leapt into action when Levers stormed into the Ladbrokes branch in Plymouth, Devon, shortly before 7pm on January 25 this year.
Robert grabbed the robber in an arm lock around his throat and wrestled him to the floor - just seconds after Levers pointed a fake 9mm pistol at the betting shop manager and demanded cash.
Good riddance.
A dude pulling out a fake handgun with no intention to hurt anybody dying isn't a good thing, regardless if he tried to rob a store. He definitely deserved some sort of punishment, but wishing death upon him is going a little too far.
RIP.

i'm sure he had a lot to contribute to the world
That thread title though
On-topic: I'm confused about the picture in the OP. Is that the guy who died? If so, I'm assuming that's a prior mugshot. Or is it the guy who stopped him?

as if you will
to quote bobby dylan,
"If I had some education
To give me a decent start,
I might have been a doctor or
A master in the arts.
But I used my hands for stealing
When I was very young,
And they locked me down in jailhouse cells,
That's how my life begun."

Facepunch - the only forum where its users defend criminals. I highly doubt you'd be saying the same thing if it was your store that he tried to rob.

cool lets attribute if people should live or die directly on how much they contribute
not nazi at all or anything

That's the robber. Sorry for the confusion.

most people don't become ccriminals because its fun, he obviously needed some money
A post-mortem examination later found Levers had 289mg of alcohol in 100ml blood - meaning he was more than three and a half times the drink drive limit.
So he's trying to rob a place with a fake gun while also completely plastered?
Fucking hell, there's bad ideas and there's this.

how would anyone know it was a fake gun
he pulled out a pistol and demanded cash

If it was my store I would still feel bad for the guy for dying on us. Its not like he was planning on killing anyone.
are you being fucking serious right now
You know what, I've had a change of heart, lets be nice and forgive all the criminals that commit these sort of crimes and hell while we're at it lets forgive all them pedophiles as well! Am I cool now?
Edit: Come on white knights! We all value human lives so this post is basically saying the same thing! Why all the dumbs for? I share the same opinions too!
As well, he wasn't technically armed. Criminals use fake weaponry because it gives them control during the robbery, but if they're caught they can't be charged with armed robbery.

No its still a serious offense to pretend to have a firearm in the UK.

I don't think anybody was defending him.
it's just that saying "good riddance" isn't very good

How did you even bring pedophiles into this
No its still a serious offense to pretend to have a firearm in the UK.
Oh, I missed it was in the UK. Damn, I thought I actually had something to contribute for once.
most people don't become ccriminals because its fun, he obviously needed some money
Oh well yeah let anyone try and rob a store then because they need money. There's clearly no such thing as getting a job or working for the money. Hell I need a bit of money so I'll go rob someone at gun point tommorow because I need money too.
how would anyone know it was a fake gun

The quoted post is just stating that the robber could not have intended to shoot anybody if his gun was fake, so it's a bit harsh to be glad that he's dead. Had nothing to do with what other people thought at the time.

Facepunch - the only forum where you get criticised for valuing a human life.

Obviously its less serious than having a real firearm but its not like the policemen are going to have a good laugh once they find out its fake
"ohoho you really had us going there for a minute m8"
Retard got himself killed. He gambled with his life by doing stupid shit, no loss.
How did you even bring pedophiles into this
I've seen people try and defend them too on this forum so why not?#
I'm clearly dumb for identifying that other people have opinions on this forum. Children.

are you purposefully stupid or does this come naturally

Well, in the US, if the guy had survived, his sentence would have been cut down quite a bit due to not using a real gun. That's generally why a lot of criminals use fake guns, lessens the inevitable legal punishment.

Aw check you out man! I'm sure you like murderers and rapists too and value their lives all the same too. How about that Myra Hindley huh? She seems like a cool cat!

Yeah, it's become insanely hard to get a proper imitation firearm these days. You actually need a license to own deactivated firearms thesedays, which is kind of a pity, as there were some really nice deactivated guns at The War and Peace Revival a few months back. If you're caught trying to rob someone with an imitation firearm, it's still a (rightfully) harsh punishment afaik.
Funny thing is that it's probably easier to get a shotgun license than a deactivated firearm of any sort, but y'know...
