Apparently Google bloggers like to post porn. A lot.

Just three days after saying sexually explicit material would be banned from public Blogger forum sites, Google is backing down.
Faced with "a ton of feedback," Google said Friday that it instead will "step up enforcement" against commercial and illegal porn.

On Tuesday, Google warned Bloggers that effective March 23 any site hosting nude pictures would be switched to private
mode — only available to the authors and invited viewers. That ban came the same day that social forum and news site Reddit said
it would remove explicit photos, videos and links if the person pictured hadn't consented to the image being posted.

Sexually explicit content on Blogger will still be marked by an "adult content" warning. And Google's Blogger policy does
not allow users to post nudes or sexually explicit images of someone else without that person's consent.
I imagine the same thing would happen if Tumblr tried to outright ban porn.

if tumblr tried to ban porn then everyone would probably just ignore the ban and keep posting it. that's generally what they do
Didn't Tumblr already try to do that?

Yes, and they got a huge backlash from their NSFW community. Not sure if they ever removed the policy though.

Wouldn't be surprised if the reason they came up with was that it was "degrading to women," and totally leaving out that usually a man is involved too

there were talks about it when yahoo bought them out but nothing ever went through. the only thing recently that they tried to ban was lolicon but everyone who was posting it before still posts it like nothing happened

You get your page banned for posting underage characters, but reblogging it has no bearing on your account.
Also They don't completely ban you so you can just sign up again, and if you have your own site, you can always have it redirect to your blog so you never completely lose track of your fans.

What are you even going on about?

tumblr staff =/= one of tumblr's various groups of users

You're straw-manning so hard hay is coming out of your sleeves

yeah pages get deleted but it's so trivial to make a new one that it doesn't matter

It was watered down, NSFW post are allowed just filtered

It's barely straw-manning when many tumblr feminists have said the exact words 'porn is degrading to women'.
It's more just ignorance as for some reason he thinks that a portion of tumblr users are the same thing as the management staff of tumblr.
Tumblr had to change their policy on NSFW content after Yahoo bought the site in 2013. And it's not a full ban, it's just that nsfw content gets filtered out and is harder to find unless you're actively looking for it, which I don't think is that bad a change considering it makes searching for sfw stuff a lot easier.
I can't remember if that was always meant to be a filter system or if they actually tried to ban all porn though.

Hell even imgur's been through this before haven't they? their /nsfw or /gif or whatever.
