'Super-Rich' Still Making Money Amidst an Economic Crisis

[release]LONDON — Financial advisers to the world's richest people report some of their top clients have continued to make money throughout recent market turmoil by harnessing sophisticated investments out of reach to mainstream investors. With equity markets plunging, most investors have suffered losses to their pension funds and portfolios, but those able to meet the multi-million dollar investment thresholds of private equity and some hedge funds are coming out ahead.
"You've got so many investment opportunities that are open only to very rich people," said one London-based financial adviser specializing in ultra-rich investors.
"The super rich are doing very well. They're getting good advice, they're getting access to stuff that other people don't have access to," he said.
Certain investment vehicles, such as hedge funds, can thrive at times of market stress because they are able to use risk management tools such as derivatives and make short-selling sales that make money when an asset price falls.[/release]

Rich are getting richer?
Well of course, how dare they stop getting richer? Who can survive off only a few million a year?
Rich are getting richer?
Yeah. They have investments and hedge funds open to them that people in the upper middle classes don't have.
Good for them. Would you really be happier if MORE people were losing money? Them losing money doesn't really help anyone, so good for them that their businesses are successful.
Of course they're going to continue to make money, they're probably not making nearly as much compared to when their investments were made in a prospering economy.
That's what happens when you're filthy rich.
In other news, world keeps turning amidst an economic crisis

I wouldn't be happy if they were losing money, no, but I'd be a lot happier if the lower and middle classes were making money rather than hedge fund managers and stockbrokers.
All these 'rich people' deserve all the money they made because ultimately they made the choice to work for themselves, rising to the top and making a success of yourself is not easy, and I'm sure a great deal of risk was involved.
I hate it when dickheads complain about shit like this, working for the man by day and bitching about him at night. If you want to be rich, make it happen, no one lives your life for you.

People who believe that becoming rich is just a job application and some elbow grease away no matter how poor you are is not thinking straight.
Is this a surprise to people or something? Of course persons with shit-load of money that have made a lot of investments continue to earn money.
Good for them. Would you really be happier if MORE people were losing money? Them losing money doesn't really help anyone, so good for them that their businesses are successful.
How does them losing money not help us? If they lose their money, we get more.
Besides, thriving on other people's misfortune has never been morally accepted.
It's different if it's done to save something from certain doom though.

I don't mind the rich, but I fucking hate how greedy so many of them are. They'll kill someone if it means saving a penny, even though they don't know what one looks like.
People who play sports do not deserve the money they are receiving.

They're piggybacking on the rest of us.
I've never met anyone that greedy, in fact many of the rich people I've been fortunate enough to meet have naturally been blessed with an 'abundance mentality'.
I've had an abundance mentality for as long as I can remember, I love to help my friends and see them succeed. I've also experienced people with Scarcity mentalities, who see success as a competition and strive to push everyone down around them in order to 'win' the 'competition.

The point is a recession is the last time the rich should be getting richer.

Everyone is still making money and getting richer in the recession, unless, of course, you took a loan for a lawnmower, car, etc without understanding the idea of an interest rate or you lost your job, which is most unfortunate.
It takes money to make money.

Um ok, by 'everyone' you mean who exactly

No, you're actually pretty much totally wrong.
How about you read this book instead of listening to your parents.

Or just read any study over what you just stated.

Everyone is still making and money and getting richer? If by 'everyone' you mean the rich, then yes.

Yeah they definitely deserve to make more in a year than everyone makes in a lifetime several times over.
Have you ever even had a job?

hurr durr, because nobody is still making money by exploiting the system, no no
you could argue that they're working hard (don't it's stupid) but they're definitely not working honestly or morally right
Laying off 1,000 workers so I can give my executives and I a bigger bonus at the end of the year isn't exactly 'working hard'.
My plan is to get filthy stinking rich. Not necessarily Bill Gates level, but up there.
Then when I reach that point? I'll be glad that I have the spare cash in case I truly need it (if it ever happens), but beyond that I'll probably just be a money tree.
"You need money? Here, take it, and don't bother trying to repay me."
"Mowing lawns to raise money for a new computer? Mow mine and I'll pay for the whole shebang."
"FUCK YEAH GIRL SCOUT COOKIES, I'LL TAKE TWENTY. Oh, and here's a $50 just for being there."

Because the term "super-rich" isn't very specific, and that's just the term MSNBC used. I would've just said "wealthy".
