I get this error whenever I try to open a game on steam Help me please
What have you done to troubleshoot it? Reinstall? Restart computer? Update drivers? Is it like that for all games? You really need more info.

[editline]07:42PM[/editline] I now get this when I try to delete my Gmod folder. Problem is, I am the admin [editline]07:44PM[/editline] And I still get the error with other games. *Grumble grumble*
snip [editline]07:44PM[/editline] And I still get the error with other games. *Grumble grumble*
UAC probably.
Uac? [editline]08:05PM[/editline] It worked when I delted them then restarted. THANKS FACEPUNCH
yes, UAC. It's some annoying piece of crap that wants your permission everytime you do something such as deleting and installing. If you want to disable it, you can look here

I only get this occasionally and restarting steam fixes it, I don't know why it doesn't for you.
lol.
I'm paranoid, okay?
The only thing UAC does is cause a pop up to come up everytime you do something and prevent you from having adminstrator powers even though you are an administrator. It causes a lot of compatibility problems with programs and doesn't really protect you at all.
:downs:
I'm glad my paranoia amuses you.
UAC does have a purpose and a place, and I've never had any trouble with it. Of course, the programs that it tries to block usually find a way around it anyways, so it's rather moot, but it's still better than letting any old program run rampant around your computer.
Of course, that comes with major risks like having some virus install more viruses without tripping UAC because it's turned off.
1. Use an anti-virus 2. Turn off UAC 3. No more dumb annoying UAC problems

However, the average computer user does know what he is installing and doesn't need a message everytime saying 'you're trying to install x are you sure' no big deal to leave it on, but some just find it annoying
Shit, now steam wont open at all. No steam windows will open.
Try look at task manager for the process steam.exe if it's there, remove it and re run it. Or you could remove the process and then go to your steam folder (so something like C:/program files/steam/) and delete the file 'clientregistry.blob'. Then start steam again.
Thanks. This thread is now ended
wait so which one exactly fixed it?
delete the games folder in steamapps/accountnamehere/ I have had this problem alot using GMOD addons
this ^
