• Effects of Pot on Diabetics

I am a diabetic and a few days ago took my first hit. I'm going to write as if you understand diabetes. So I felt like I had low blood sugar about a half hour before I took the hit and ate some food to get back to normal levels. Anyway I take the hit from a bowl (which they said was a lot for a first timer) and about five minutes later my limbs became heavy and things seemed to slow down. Since this was my first time I had no idea if this was low, which is accompanied by these feelings, or the pot. Things got worse and I couldn't focus. I got really tired and kinda leaned back. No one else seemed to be acting like this so I assume I was spiking into a low. They were worried about how I was acting and I told them I felt like I had low blood sugar and they gave me a third of a bottle of Gatorade to drink. At this point I started to drift in and out of consciousness and it is all kind of a blur. After awhile I started to regain cognition and recovered from what I think was the worst attack of hypoglycemia I have ever had. tl;dr: I took my first hit, and (I think) my blood glucose dropped like a rock So my question to any "professionals" is if the pot caused me to go low, or if it was just coincidence, because now I am a little scared to try it again, seeing as I could have easily died. Searching online only brings up things about how one shouldn't smoke pot.
Well marijuana can affect your blood pressure, but it shouldn't do anything to your blood sugar... It's also possible that you just greened out. It can happen if you smoke a lot at once, especially if you're inexperienced.
Well, all I can find on google is basically, if you get high, control your munchies or your blood sugar will get sky high. But it shouldn't have done this to you, so I'd agree with Boean and say greenout.
It may have affected how your body absorbed the sugar.
It may have affected how your body absorbed the sugar.
No, weed has no effect on insulin at all. [editline]01:12AM[/editline] http://www.diabetesmine.com/2005/10/...ng_diabet.html http://www.letfreedomgrow.com/cmu/diabetes_1.htm http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=7005 Off of grasscity, haven't bothered going through them, but they all seem to agree that smoking weed helps with blood pressure/cellular functions, just control your munchies and you should be fine.... you greened out, OR your blood sugar was low just not low enough for you to notice it untill you got stoned(you tend to be more aware of your body while stoned)
k, Thanks for the answers.
Plus if you were kinda low I could see that the effects like slowness and heavy limbs would stack with the effects of the pot. Don't worry though, I have a few friends who are diabetic (one of them quite severely) and smoke, so it's certainly possible without problems if you're careful.
OP's picture is what happens to diabetics on pot.
