The wreck of the Costa Concordia cruise ship could be loaded aboard a colossal salvage vessel after a deal was struck with a Dutch company.
The Dockwise Vanguard, capable of picking up oil rigs, has been recruited as an option to move the ship.
The vessel can sink under the Concordia then rise up to lift it clear of the water before sailing it to be scrapped.
Bigger pictures of the Dockwise Vanguard:

Oh my fuck.
That's gigantic.
This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Can we get a few hundred of these, build small cities on them, and sail them out to sea to establish a sovereign nation of ocean nomads?

The best engineering ideas are always the ones concocted under the influence.
Fuck Costa Concordia that thing could carry Costa Rica.

Some ships are pretty big. Here's the biggest one compared to some buildings.

Knock Nevis was scrapped a couple of years ago though ;_; biggest ship we ever built
The Vanguard is able to offer an offshore dry dock facility, allowing ships and floating oil rigs to be raised out of the water for inspection or maintenance without a break in production.
Neat feature.

We make them bigger.

If you think that's big, look up Majestic Maersk or Knock Nevis

holy crap
Music and camera effects are annoying, but here's the Dockwise Vanguard in action.

Want a size comparison? Look at that guy at 1:18.
I'm sure there was a documentary about it a while back, but I can't find it.

I want to see a city made of converted upturned cargo ships.

Only relevant to large ships
Big ships like that are almost surreal, I was in Duluth MN a few years ago and watched a 1/4 mile long boat squeeze under a bridge with about 6 feet on either side
Us Dutch guys usually salvage anything anywhere in the water.

Sounds like a normal round of SS13

this is one of the reasons why i love humanity
we as an average 5'5-6'2 height human beings can make something that fucking amazing, big, and complex
i can barely make a house out of dominos man
Damn I would love to spend a few days living in one of the rooms in those towers at sea.
Imagine the fucking view you get.

I can't even make a god damn 1 meter long domino track without accidentally tripping the damn blocks over.
-actually snip probably gonna get banned-
i thought things like this were just ideas
holy shit
If this one capsizes can we send an even bigger one to get both of them?
