you are completely lucid while under hypnosis(the whole point is to facilitate concentration). these sorts of hypnosis tricks are funny because the person is acting like a jackass just for fun.
It looked like she smiled a bit when she would suddenly go to sleep. I always find these things hard to believe.. I need to be hypnotized and recorded.

its bullshit thats why

hypnosis doesn't work the way it's portrayed by street/performer hypnotists. hypnosis is real, but it's generally a 10-30 minute process of gradual relaxation to the point where the person's body is completely relaxed and their mind is able to fully concentrate(a trance pretty much). then suggestions are fed to you and your mind is able to concentrate them and integrate them more easily.
shit actually has a higher-than-placebo effectiveness for anxiety, depression, and addiction therapy.
go on youtube and listen to some free hypnosis audio it's pretty fun even if all you get is some relaxation.

when street performers hypnotize someone they are basically just persuading someone to act funny of their own accord. hypnosis isn't mind control.
Exactly, there's no such thing as "insta-sleep"
A lot of false 'hypnotists' try to take it further and claim they get anyone to sleep with just a light tap at a specific point of the victim's body with no warning or pre-relaxtion. If this was the case, insomnia would be cured and we'd have people committing bank robberies by "tapping" the teller and security on the shoulder.

What? Of course that doesn't happen, members of the International Society for Extraordinaire Hypnotic Artists have a strict code of conduct that states they can only use their superhuman powers for good!
I remember a documentary where they used hypnosis to convince a group of people to support a specific cause very strongly. Out of a group of maybe 40 people, ~10 proved susceptible, and one of them very much so. The project took a long time, but I think it shows that suggestion is very much real, even though it doesn't resemble what you find in movies.
holy shit this is hilarious, she needs to be fed a dick
I remember some Derren Brown clip with him talking about how most people "susceptible" to hypnosis are mostly doing it to play a role.
It's kind of like Zimbardo's prison experiment, put someone in a role and they will slowly but surely play it out.
Idk if this is the case in this video, it might as well be fake, but one thing I know for sure is that girl is pretty hot.
I also clicked on this link because of how the title's worded. I'm a weak, weak man. .___.
Rate me dumb, but the closed mindedness of many FPers is really disheartening at times. I have read a lot into hypnosis ( Fantastic book here http://goo.gl/TNpwL ) after believing it was a load of bullshit, however what I found was awesome. If you think hypnosis is 'playing pretend' then you need to read about hypnotic phenomena, which includes anesthesia. Here is a demonstration from Derren Brown's Svengali, sorry about the quality... it was the only non-removed video I could find, however you can watch the full video on 4oD.

I know 100% this is not faked, I know somebody who went to my sixth form who did this exact thing with Derren Brown on a different night. I am by no means saying that hypnosis is never faked, but there is evidence to support hypnosis.

Also, how was he exploiting her... it just seemed like a regular impromptu hypnosis performance.
The difference here is that he didn't use anesthesia or anything except telling her to sleep and pulling her hand.
I can't remember the exact name but it's something along the lines of hypnosis by disorientation. The hand pull acts as shock to the brain and the suggested "sleep" is taken by the subconscious to 'escape' the confusion. The "sleep" was also reinforced beforehand to make sure she understood fully what he meant by it.
The reason this can't be performed on anyone is because the subject needs to trust you, hence why this probably won't work on your friends or family.

Trust as in, they believe you know what you're doing.
I wish I could fall asleep by just shaking my arm
Plane flights would be much easier
Unless you have a fucking tranquilliser gun with you, I'm afraid there is no such thing as instant sleep

It's not sleep as you know it, sleep in this context means a deep state of concentrated relaxation, which means, let your body ragdoll and your mind relax also.
at first i thought i was in sensationalist headlines

Narcolepsy, schooled.
i've been hypnotized before, and there's no way it can be done instantly
it takes forever

The famous Richard Nongard uses a rapid induction; which isn't 'instant' but fast, in his hypnotherapy work.
[editline]14th January 2013[/editline]
Oh did I forget to mention, I have been hypnotized with the arm tug.
you people need to read some books on hypnosis instead of basing all of your knowledge on the subject from random forums and web pages. you're not 100% off but you are pretty wrong.
I believe that studies show that people who truly do not believe in hypnosis can not be hypnotized. Professionals learn to figure out how to find a susceptible person. This is probably why he chose someone who had been "hypnotized" twice before. I would describe it as a form of placebo and being willingly open to suggestion.

Exactly - it all depends on the person. If someone is susceptible and you have a talented hypnotist, that person could easily be put into a pretty deep trance within 15-30 seconds.
holy shit this is hilarious, she needs to be fed a dick
wow what a creep
The guy forcing the girl to kiss him. HILARIOUS.
At 3:01, where she instantly 'falls asleep' seems horrendously fake to me. Actually the whole video does. I'm having trouble deciding if this is a joke or not.
that guy in the background with the black shirt who is kissing the girl is really annoying.

this is really stupid
I love the guy in the back who keeps staring at the camera then kissing his girl
then staring at the camera
and then back to the girl
wtf
It is very possible to bring someone to the relaxed state most people would call a trance in an instant, in the same way it's very possible to bring someone there over a longer period of time. I'm not saying that this video isn't fake, a lot of street and stage hypnosis works by "playing along", but rejecting all types of hypnosis because of one type of it is stupid.

I completely agree with you, and read into this matter a bit myself. Seeing Derren in April, and can't wait. And cheers for the book.
