A $400,000 Lamborghini was torn in half after it collided with another car and then slammed into a wall on E. 66th Street, and homeowners on the block say its time the city does something about rampant speeding in the neighborhood.
“I don’t want my kids going outside and walking down E. 66th. I’m afraid they might not come back.” said Michael Yuryev, whose two surveillance cameras recorded footage of the spectacular accident, which he subsequently posted on YouTube. “E. 66th Street is a tragedy waiting to happen, and enough is enough.”
In the video, the Lamborghini can be seen travelling at high speed down E. 66th Street, when the Mazda attempts a left turn and clips the rear end of the sports car, causing the back end to sheer off — sending it spinning down the Mill Island roadway in two halves.
At least it keeps you safe!
The guy in that video doesn't even notice that the lambo swerved to dodge the idiot, but how do you dodge a guy turning into you and they do nothing to prevent the collision?
Is that just the light from cameras or are the headlights still on?
Where is the power coming from?
Next GTA will feature that sort of car damage.
Does the lamborghini have explosive separators in the middle of it for just an occasion or something? Damn.
I'm more suprised it didn't catch fire.
How can the guy in the video even ask who was at fault? The Mazda made a left turn directly in front of a car that was moving in a straight line.
These things seem to crash in the most imaginative of ways.

Headlights are powered by batteries, the tail lights are dark in the pictures.
You can see the Lamborgini slicing right down the middle.
Tests have shown that a simple impact can't slice it this cleanly.
Coincidence? I think not.
This is clearly an inside job.
It's the Mazda drivers fault, he pulled right in front of the Lambo when he should have waited. But the Lambo was probably going over the speed limit too. But the accident would not have happened had the Mazda waited for the Lambo to pass.
Someone's having lamb chops for dinner.

I'm no Lamborghini enthusiast nor a mechanic, but maybe the battery is at the front but the rest of the engine is at the back?
Just a thought, someone who actually knows about it should give their two cents.
"it's time to do something about the rampant speeding"
I don't care what the speed was that asshat turned right into him like he didn't even know he was there
there's reckless driving, then there's flat out stupid drivers. Both are an issue but one doesn't need to make an effort to be dangerous
also to counter semantics, he didn't really turn in front of the lambo so much as he turned into his side in a slow-mo T-bone crash. He was TRYING to turn in front of him but severely underestimated distance
Luckily its only split in half, just duct tape it and all is good to go.

The Aventador is a mid-engined car. Naturally to try and spread the weight for more of a 50/50 distribution the battery and most of the wiring loom is up front.
This sort of weight sharing happens in most, if not all mid-engined cars.
My buddies lambo countache got wrecked recently, 50 grand to fix. Luckily he's not the one paying for it.
wow both drivers are terrible in this situation
Why does the most awful accidents always happen to the most amazing cars :(. That was clearly the guy/girl in the black car fault, he or she was crossing the lambos lane on top of that, the person did neither see it coming before it was too late.
What's with Lamborghinis getting into accidents and stuff lately?
Two burst into flames at random and now this

bursting into flames at random isn't entirely unheard of, but if we heard every story of all the incidents that happen like this you'd probably never find the nice cars buried in the pile
saw this on Jalopnik like 4 days ago
the aventador has a safety feature that separates the engine section from the passenger compartment, and the mazda managed to hit it at exactly that point
it didn't even look like the aventador was driving that quickly
Because news sites only report when super cars get into accidents. "Normal" car accidents have no news value.
I would say it's not the lambo's fault at all. It's the fucking idiot that was turning. There was CLEARLY enough time to see the lambo coming and he could have easily waited. The lambo definitely shouldn't have been going NEARLY that fast, but even so, in this case, there was plenty of time for the other car to see the guy and stop before turning.

The Lamborghinis that caught fire were first generation Gallardos in which the problems of vehicle fire didn't surface until the cars had been passed onto owners that used them 'properly' due to depreciation.
The Aventador has a certain ownership profile, and while that may or may not have been the reason for this accident it was certainly a contributing factor.
What's with Lamborghinis getting into accidents and stuff lately?

Because Lamborghinis are really popular and rather expensive cars. Also everyone knows what a Lamborghini is. The media would rather report on stuff people might care about, and that is what gets to you. A Lamborghini or Ferrari crash would gain more attention and make more web traffic than, say, a McLaren or Pagani crash.

But from a distance you cannot see how fast a vehicle is moving in a straight line towards you, and the Mazda driver assumed he could make the turn before the Lamborghini arrived if it was traveling at the speed limit in that street.
I'm sure it'll buff out.

But it did
