Nintendo removing tool-assisted speed runs and rom-hacks on Nico Video

Nintendo is currently taking down a number of videos that include tool assisted speed runs and also rom-hacked video games. Previously the Kyoto based company said it would endorse things such as Let’s Plays, Game Music Covers, and Fan Art. However it would seem that tool assisted speed runs and rom-hacked games just aren’t accepted by Nintendo.
I hope they don't start doing this on Youtube too. This is really stupid.
nintendo's community pr department sucks hard sometimes
What the fuck, Nintendo?
I gotta say, you think that by now Nintendo would have seen a decrease in their community. But it still keeps going.
I assume this is because nintendo like their image where their games are 100% bugfree and stable as fuck, but obviously some dipshit business manager can't equate that TAS is completely different to normal play.
That or TAS is always emulated so they're technically pirating.
Either way it's classic businessmen meddling with things they don't understand.
NND for nintendo is probably much easier to moderate considering the size difference between it and YouTube. while this sucks ass for NND users (not as if NND didn't suck enough anyways) i don't think this is gonna affect YT to any grand scale

dumping your own copy of the game isn't piracy. they can't prove you haven't done that

It's a massively grey area and I'm 99% sure it's against the ToS.
Yeah, that's right, piss off the speedrunner community, Nintendo.
They're not organized, vocal, or beloved by anyone, not at all.
Nintendo acts too much like Apple sometimes. It's easy to forget that they've never really been on our side. The flashing blue screen was caused by shittily-designed hardware DRM, after all.
Now listen here, if you want to play our games, you will play it only the way we want you to play it
welp rip 99% of my content if this extends to youtube
I don't know if anyone here uses emulators, but CoolRoms also was recently forced to take down all Nintendo ROMs hosted on their site. Sounds like a purge?

depends on the country. ToS/EULA mean hardly anything
there's a good chance this is only enforceable in JP. making personal dumps is entirely un-infringing in the US
Some games companies, such as Nintendo, print warnings inside their game manuals that they do not allow users to make backup or archival copies. Whether these warnings in this specific form can be considered valid contracts or not is legally questionable. For an overview of relevant issues, see user agreement (EULA), shrink wrap contract, clickwrap, Fair Use, Fair Dealing, and DMCA.
Coolroms is blatant piracy so I'm surprised it's still up.
only if they have legal domain over the service. they probably do in japan.
i wouldn't be worried about a similar problem on global YT. personally i would imagine for starters nintendo would have to get google to abide by their ToS which in this context holds no bearing in the US

Wow all of that old gold. It's a damn shame, there was some awesome stuff.
Then what about all the DMCA takedowns from Nintendo?
the DMCAs are for unauthorised monetization rather than breaking the game modification/ripping part of the EULA aren't they?
[editline]16th March 2015[/editline]
unless they've already started taking down videos of TAS on YT outside of japan
Then what about all the DMCA takedowns from Nintendo?
Nintendo has been claiming monetization, not DMCAing videos on Youtube.

at this point, nintendo is the disney of video games, its unlikely they'll ever die, or its community.

I really hope no one has that image of Apple in their head. They are as anti-consumer as you can get when it comes to consumer electronics.
Coolroms is blatant piracy so I'm surprised it's still up.
It's because they're pretty much like any other file-hosting site. As long as they remove shit when told, it's fine.
Nintendo is guided by its own hubris, and it's just pathetic how people try to justify those actions
Nintendo has done worse
they tried to ban the original cheat tool for the snes? or nes?
basically they didn't want people cheating in the game back then, so they tried and get the device banned.
nintendo has done a lot of dumb shit really. But not as bad as other companies.
Nintendo is guided by its own hubris, and it's just pathetic how people try to justify those actions
On one side they have horrible PR management, but on the other side they got Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Smash and so on.

this thread is an example of dumb shit they've done. But companies like Ubisoft have done worse, and microsoft would have made their console have some seriously hardcore always online drm. Maxis made sim city which seemed to help kill them.

I dunno about you but to me none of this is worse than monetizing videos made by your fans and overall disrespect to your community like Nintendo is pulling.

like I said, they've done a lot of dumb shit. But I'm probably just biased because I own a wiiu and got tired of other consoles because of personal reasons
sega has killed itself when it comes to consoles because of worse decisions, and microsoft/sony has a monthly fee for the online portion of their consoles. Then there are companies like Ubisoft, which outright tells its community that it hates them and tells them that they shouldn't make the game optimized for them / etc.
monetizing videos is a pretty shitty thing to do but it's still not as bad as others (in fact, they've done WAY worse). Especially when you look at Sega, which at one point, halfly dominated Nintendo. Now they are stuck to pachinko machines.
at this point, nintendo is the disney of video games, its unlikely they'll ever die, or its community.
You do know that disney owns the biggest company that sponsors game channels on youtube right?
I really can't justify their actions in these situations, they're just downright backwards.
Whenever Nintendo ask you shit about youtube or anything internety for Club Nintendo just be positive as fuck. If 90% of people say they're strongly influenced by LPs/speedruns etc of their games then they're going to have to stop trying to censor their own community.
depends on the country. ToS/EULA mean hardly anything

Makes good sense seeing that it's being removed from Nico if that's the case
