Hey, basically what I want to do is, join 2 computers together. 1 is laptop , another is PC. They both are connected to 1 Internet modem. in 192.168.1.1 my modem settings laptop is detected as well. Laptop has Windows Vista Home Edition and PC has Windows 7 Ultimate. So how can I basically transfer files from one to another?
Thanks.
Laptop -> Ethernet cable / Wireless -> Desktop -> Modem?
All computers -> Router -> Modem?
If they're already connected, you should look up "Sharing folders", and then do \\laptop's IP\ or \\desktop's IP\ in a folder's address bar, and it'd connect.
It's a laptop connected with internet cable to modem.
And same with pc, pc.
Modem - Port 1 - cable - PC
Modem - Port 2 - cable - laptop
Then you could just go on your PC, open a random folder, and write \\<Laptop IP here>\ and it'd open a folder showing your laptop's shared folders.

Tried but it asks some kind of user name + password

So put in your PC or laptops username and password, if they don't have them leave it blank and press enter.
Also do you mean router not modem?

It says I don't have permission to access folders or pc if I leave it blank.
to share files on windows xp you'll need a username/pass, on both machines or do
windows explorer (not ie)
\\< laptop ip address>
and then transport the files

Create a password then. In windows 2000 you always needed a password for file sharing.
Network -> Network and Sharing Center -> "Password protected sharing" = Off
That's for Vista, 7 should roughly be the same.
Yeah I solved this. Thanks
